It depends on your company. Sometimes companies refuse to let you bring in family initially, but after you persist and insist, they let you. Everything is possible in Saudi, it's all about convincing ppl or having contacts. But there are not set rules that can't be bent.

Does a foreign lady visiting Saudi Arabia have to wear Niqab

Does a foreign lady visiting Saudi Arabia have to wear Niqab?
I am going to visit Saudi Arabia for work as my company's one branch office is located in Saudi Arabia. So do I have to wear Niqab as other ladies do?? Are these practices of covering whole face & body practised today also in this 21st century.
Saudi Arabia - 7 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
You don't have to wear Niqab .. But you have to wear Hijab , most Islamic legal systems define this type of modest dressing as covering everything except the face and hands in public. The dress code has nothing with 21st century, even if you are not Muslim you have to respect rules and traditions of others specially when you are a visitor.! Hijab is given the wider meaning of modesty, privacy, and morality .. if you want to know more about Islam goto : http://discover.islamway.com/
2 :
you wont be forced to wear a niqab.. but sometimes depending on the strictness of you employer and the people you will be meeting/greeting in your employement, you might wear one just cause you feel safer with it on..
3 :
Theres no need to cover ur face. You only have to wear your abaya outside and maybe you'd like to put a scarf on ur head not to look too odd. Covering the body has nothing to do with the century we living in but rather with religion. Religion can never become outdated or modernised - dress code especially... Hope this helps!
4 :
to make long story short you don't have to cover your face. you don't have to cover your head. yes you should cover your body. welcome to SA and hope you enjoy your stay and get your work done :)
5 :
you have to wear a long loose fitting cloak and a headscarf. Some villages are more relaxed. Jeddah is also okay. Riyadh you MUST wear cloak and headscarf.
6 :
NO ONE has to cover anything but their body. You don't have to cover your feet or hands, either.
7 :
no, no one will force you. it might be better to do so just to blend in with the people in the country.

work ethics in saudi arabia

work ethics in saudi arabia?
what are the ethics of people in Saudi arabia in relation to business, how hard working are they ???
Saudi Arabia - 9 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
There aren't any,, 99% are materialistic creatures that will suck your blood if they have to, just to get a riyal. This applies and not limited to the following departments: Directorate of passports, Civil affairs, The traffic police... etc
2 :
The work ethic is lower than in other places. I think it's partly due to over-staffing in many large companies. Also, when Ramadan comes, you can expect that not much work will be done because everyone is only required to work 6 hours, probably half of which is wasting time....
3 :
The question should be is there any work ethics in KSA?
4 :
Depends on the individual.
5 :
There is a reason millions of people from around the world work in Saudi. Saudis don't work. They are lazy. Same goes for Kuwaitis, Bahrainis, Qataris, Emratis and Omanis.
6 :
@ ME we work my friend a lot!! the new generation of the young Saudi guys are on the way and you've been working in saudi arabia for 7 years but that won't last for long time.. give it 3 years at least and you're gonna find a lot of qualified and educated saudis working in the company you work in now... Just get ready for that day ^_^
7 :
don't go.
8 :
Well work ethic here could be better. Saudis are lazy(sorry Saudis I love you but you know its true). I actually know someone who works in the bank and when they need to hire a new employee the first thing they do is throw away all the Saudi CV's/resumes because they don't want to take a chance on hiring a Saudi because most of them don't get their work done. Most of the companies here are at or have exceeded their maximum allowed amount of foreign workers. Its a cultural thing, kids live with their parents until they are married and sometimes after(that is not a bad thing), they don't get part time jobs while in HS or uni their parents buy them everything they need, food, clothes, cars, ect. They don't have to do any chores because there is a maid to do everything for them. They have no responsibilities at all and there is the cause of all the laziness.
9 :
well there are good hard working individuals as there are lazy. A lot is to do with the last 50 years of oil boom here and everyone is living high on their pedestals now.. its the age of "everyones a prince" now a days.. No one wants to do menial work.. Before my husband says, you'd see Saudis do construction work, picking up garbage, sweeping the streets, driving taxis, working as janitors, tea boys, cooks, etc.. Now every single boy wants to be a manager.. Well there cant be all managers.. someone has to start at the bottom.. Also there arent enough universities to education all these wannabe managers.. I think they need to send every single foreign worker (unless no absolute replacement can be found) back home to their countries, and allow Saudi's to do all the jobs in this country once more.. No more spoiled kids.. What amazes me is that a garbage collecter is USA is one of the highest paid menial jobs in the country.. many garbage collecters go back to the station, wash/shower and drive home in their mercedes back to the suburbs to a 5 bedroom home mansion.. all their kids go off to paid universities.. their wives dont have to work.. They are laughing all the way to the bank...

Police clearances are available for Saudi citizens and resident third country nationals. Saudi citizens currently residing overseas must return in person to process the police clearance. Police clearances are unavailable for third country nationals who no longer reside in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Make the appropriate statement in your Australian visa applcation. The Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship knows that you are unable to provide such document.

As a woman, be sure to give this some careful thought. If you don't already live in Riyadh, I found it significantly more conservative than, say, Jeddah so you might want to think about the lifestyle changes more than anything else. If you don't live in Saudi at all or haven't visited I should do some careful investigation as you're unlikely to get a visa beforehand apart from a Hajj visa (don't even think about trying for one if you're not Muslim). If you are happy with the culture outside work, just treat it as any other job - try and speak to some of the other employees.
2 :
You'd better work in Jeddah. A lot of muttawa will harass you in Riyadh. Jeddah is the best! JEDDAH...JEDDAH...JEDDAH... Enjoy the breeze from the red sea.

do indian doctors working in saudi arabia get good pay

do indian doctors working in saudi arabia get good pay?
hi. i am going to saudi to work for MOH. i am a doctor by profession. can somebody tell me the life out there? how are indian expatriates treated there? what are the living conditions?
Saudi Arabia - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
well I think you will be ok.. Since you are a professional, you will be treated as such... living conditions can be bad all the way up to luxurious. depending on where you employer houses you. Or allows you to choose.. Life is ruled by strict Islamic law.. YOu have to respect that. No dating, no drinking, no mixing of the genders etc. But im sure the elite doctors social clubs probably will invite you to their private parties at homes or community compounds and doctors of both genders probably will attend. Its all who you know. ..
2 :
Saudis aren't going to like what I have to say, but I will tell you the truth. Salaries here are based first of all on your nationality. Western doctors (Amer. Brits, etc) get the highest pay. Then Saudis. Arabs from other countries, mostly Egyptian or Syrian, then Indians and Pakistanis are the lowest paid in all professions. They are not always treated well, and discriminated against. They stick together in close communities for survival and emotional support. If you are looking for work, I recommend United Arab Emirates. As a doctor you will have it better than most other Indian nationals. But what and how you are treated in the hospital is one thing, life in the society here will be different. Because outside of work, they don't see a doctor, they only see another Indian.
3 :
Some organizations do have a salary structure based on the cost of living of the country the employee is from. Kind of silly, seeing as they all are living in Saudi Arabia.

Congratulations and welcome to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Raven is right!!! Since you'll be a "darkie" expat in KSA, please be prepared for the following treatments: Why Is There So Much Hate Inside Us? Abdullah Al-Mutairi • Al-Watan In the shop next to my house, there is a home delivery service which is run by an Indian. He is a good man, hardworking and devoted to his job. I talk to him whenever he delivers something to my house and he talks to me about the time he spent working in Abu Dhabi and of his dream to live in London. Last week I asked him to deliver a newspaper to my house. When he delivered it to me, he asked me whether I wrote in it. I told him that I did and he asked me to write about why young Saudis hate foreign workers, particularly Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis. He asked, “Why do they throw rocks at us when they see us in the street?” He said that in India they were taught to love others because that is the teaching of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). I was moved by his words and promised him that I would write on the subject. I took his question to my students and started a discussion in class. The students agreed that they had harassed foreigners, particularly South Asians, in the street. One said that seeing a worker in the street was a perfect chance for them to beat him up and then run away. Some admitted searching for foreign workers to beat up, throw eggs at and generally abuse. I asked my students why they behaved in this way, what was the reason. Some said it was just fun, nothing more or less. Some said it was because those people were weak and unable to fight back. Some said that their favorite pastime was to catch cats, kill them and skin them. I was shocked and disturbed by all this violence and wondered what was causing it. The classroom discussion ended but my questions would not go away. Is this violence only committed by children or can we see it at other levels in other forms? How do older people deal with foreign workers? Do the workers feel that we respect them? Sadly, the rude and sarcastic way we often refer to them sprang to my mind. Can such relationships be called humane? Are they based on equality? Are they in keeping with the tenets of Islam? Do we adult Saudis who sponsor and employ foreigners fulfill the conditions of their contracts — which both we and they have signed? How many housemaids never get a day off? I remember a worker in the school where I work who was on the job every day and who had not been paid for six months. I remember another unpaid worker who asked humbly and politely for his dues and received nothing but curses and insults. It seems to me that our children’s violent behavior has its origins and roots in the behavior and attitudes of adults. My Indian friend’s question should have thus been directed toward all ages and not just at the young. Are these things related to education? Can we blame this shameful behavior on a lack of education? The answer came all too quickly to my head. I remembered one of my colleagues, a teacher who belongs to a certain tribe. He believes that a student lacking a tribal name is a man with no roots and hence of no importance. Then I remembered a preacher who visited the school after 9/11 and warned the students against dealing with non-Muslims. I also remember a sheikh in a mosque who would not allow a foreigner to pray next to him — simply because the man was not Saudi. It is not difficult to come up with examples of our relations with people in our country who belong to different religions and cultures. And I will not discuss our own relations with other Saudis. Many of us will not allow our daughters to marry someone just because he is from a certain place or because, for some reason, we look down on him. Behind all these examples are beliefs and thoughts toward “others” which glorify us and our egos and degrade them and theirs. Such a situation is fertile ground for the idea of hate and infertile ground for the idea of love. Those brought up to love people will not throw rocks at them and curse them. Those brought up to love people will not degrade those who are different from them? Where is love in our lives? Has it given way to hate? What answer can I give my Indian friend? Is he going to understand that it will take a long time to change this culture of hate? I do not think that it will be easy since so many of us do not want to and so many believe they are unique and the best in the world. I remember when I was in England last summer, arriving at the front door of the house where I was staying. I saw a little girl standing outside the house next to mine. I wondered if she would curse me or throw stones at me or whether she would just look away in disgust. Instead, she carried on watering the flowers in the small garden; then she looked up and waved at me, with a big smile on her face. Could that have happened here?

Think about this again in 10 years because you must have worked and lived in KSA for at least 10 years to be able to gain KSA citizenship. Even then you can't take it for granted because these decisions will be made case by case. Do not count the time from 1975 until 1985:)) As a Neurosurgeon you at least have chances. Get a good reputation and be successful in your field. Good luck.

well technically yes you can always present your request.. but as to granting it. thats another issue.. you've been out of the country for almost 24years.. thats a long time to have been working on a degree, but anyways.. as "H" says.. remain here 10years again and then reapply if you are in good standing at that point..

Can an American Christian working in Saudi Arabia find a church and worship safely

Can an American Christian working in Saudi Arabia find a church and worship safely?

Saudi Arabia - 7 Answers

1 :
There are no churches in Saudi Arabia. But, you can practice Christianity in your home. You cannot openly distribute Bibles and other pamphlets to the public. Maybe there are some Bible study groups in some compounds. There are many Christians living here in Saudi Arabia.
2 :
Maybe u can find it in Qassim :) Kiddin' there isn't any Church in public here ,
3 :
You can worship privately in your home. There are no churches in Saudi, bibles, crosses and any other religious items are not allowed in by customs anyway.
4 :
If you can't find a church then maybe you could start one. Try downtown Riyadh. There's bound to be a store front or empty building that you could rent for such purposes. After that, join a political party or labor union. Meet openly and publish grievance opinions against the government or your political adversaries. If you run afoul with the law, make sure you ask for an open trial in front of a jury of your peers. [heavy sarcasm]
5 :
well welcome to SaudiArabia.. As you probably are aware.. we dont have churches or allow open worship of other faiths here.. Now you are aware.. remember.. No one forced you to come work here, so you are coming to work under your own choice, and that choice of this country included not being able to practice your faith openly, So although I respect you, you cannot complain if you are not forced to work here.. However.. you didnt mention the area in which you will work.. There is a huge community in most major towns of American, western, and christians working and living here.. We are not so niave to think they dont hold thier own private worship services.. They do.. just now out in the open.. I know the American and British embassy and consulates probably have their own services in their housing compounds.. the Aramco (Arabian American oil company) which has huge living compounds (as large as small cities) holds servies in private also.. Im sure other larger compounds where the western people are also hold them.. Just ask about when you come.. If you are in the eastern area working in Khobar, Dammam, Jubail etc.. you are just a short distance away from Bahrain, you might want to go there on a weekend to their churches... ^_^
6 :
yes u ganna find a church if u find a mosque in the Vatican you are an expatriate you don't have the right to ask for church . there is no a single saudi chrstian so there is not any church. non-american in america don't have the right to buy a gun to protect them self there are mosque in america because simply there are american muslim peoplee

I believe criminal records are issued through the Ministry of Interior. However, if you are not here yourself, it might be quite difficult to issue one. Your best bet would probably be to contact the Saudi Embassy in New Zealand. Have ready anything that proves you lived in SA during that time such as passport entry stamps, visas, employment letter.. etc. They should be able to help you. Good luck :)

You need to ask your employer!
2 :
your employer should have that already arranged for you. thats odd that they dont.. otherwise, you need to go to the nearest government hospital in the town you are at...
3 :
Are you talking about the initial exams that you need for your visa or have you fallen ill since you have been here? If your employer is telling you that you are not allowed medical care, they are lying. KSA does not tolerate this.
4 :
Actually, medical exam should be at least once a year depending on the contract with your employer. Try to ask the Labor Office of the company you are working with if that is included in your contract and who will pay for it? Some companies have free medical check - up and medication for their workers at the assigned hospital or poly clinic.

I'm going to work in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for a year + . Can anyone tell me how expensive the place is

I'm going to work in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for a year + . Can anyone tell me how expensive the place is?
My accommodation and lunch are provided. Thanks. Thanks to Ramadan & Polaris, that's most useful! I live in the UK. Just one more question please - is it safe to use tapwater for drinking or does one have to stock up on bottled water? How about salad vegetables, are they safe to eat if washed?

Saudi Arabia can be very cheap or extremely expensive. It depends on you and how you choose to spend your money. In general, American fast food chains are the same price here as they are in the US. There are many good cheap Saudi restaurants. There are some nice sit-down restaurants too. Groceries are about the same or less than you pay in the US. But, there isn't a lot of prepared or frozen meals, so you have to buy the ingredients and make it yourself. There is a store called Tamimi/Safeway that sells a LOT of American imported groceries. Some of the prices are reasonable, but some are just too much to me...like $10 for a box of cereal is too much for me, but I guess if it's your fav. then you might pay that much. Clothes and shopping...if you want good quality, then you'll pay the same or more than you would when shopping in the US or Europe. It seems they raise the prices above what you would normally pay in the country from which it's imported. But, if you shop when there's a sale, you can find some good deals. But, there aren't sales here all the time like there is in the US. I really think it's best to bring as many clothes as you can from home rather than relying on shopping here. Oh, and stock up on undergarments before you come because it's men working in the shops, and it's not comfortable shopping for them here. _______________________ Drinking water - well, the water in Riyadh isn't salty, and in most places it's clean enough for drinking and cooking. Many places have water delivered in trucks and it's stored in tanks on top of the building/house instead of having water piped in. That water is supposed to be clean and safe. Some places have a separate tap for drinking water. I personally drink the water in my in-laws house in Riyadh. I know other women living in Riyadh who only drink bottled water, but they cook and clean with tap water. I think it's personal choice and what you feel comfortable with. Bottled water is fairly cheap here, so if you want to drink bottled water, the cost isn't going to kill you. Salad veggies - I've never had any problems. All the produce here is good and the prices are generally good. My only complaint is sometimes it's hard to find good fresh produce in some of the supermarkets, but that was in Khobar, not Riyadh, so I'm not sure about all the produce in Riyadh. I know there are some very good shops that sell fresh produce. One that I shopped in sells organic produce grown in Saudi Arabia from the Qasim region. They have a good selection and good prices and everything is very fresh.
2 :
I have visited many countries before but believe me riyadh is different in that there are many choices in living. you will find many different stores everywhere to sell clothes, foods and everything you want with different prices. but the thing you should know where to go. Anyway it depends where you come from (European or Asian country) so you will find the difference between your country and Saudi. nowadays the prices has been grown up especially for accommodation but still there are alot of choices. welcome in Riyadh :)

My understanding of the rules: - You are allow to get family resident visa if your profession in your work-permit (Iqama) is engineer, or manager or doctor. - If this is the case, then your "sponsor" may issue an invitation letter in order to get the resident visa. That visa applies only to direct relatives such as wife, sons or parents.
2 :
Yes, as per the visa category you are entitled to apply for the family visa. You should get a no objection letter from your sponsor/employer on this regard and your basic salary should be above SR 2000.
3 :
If you have iqama number then you can bring your family along.

I am expatriate working in saudi arabia. I have offered a new job in abudhabi. I want to know how i can transfer my car from saudi arabia to abudhabi if i decide to relocate to abudhabi. eventhough i was in UAE before, I don't have a driving licence in UAE. Please help me with your answers.

1) Sell your car in saudi and buy new one in UAE 2) Drive it there ..
2 :
Get export plates from Saudi police dept, drive to the car UAE. In UAE 1. Obtain car insurance 2. Pass the emissions/road safety test 3. Fill car registration application 4. Pay the fees done
3 :
Firstly, You need to get UAE driving license. With Saudi License you can only drive for 30 days, and if you are exiting saudi then I guess your driving license is not valid. As for the car, you can export the car if you don't have any strings attached. But it a long process. If I were you I would sell my car, then buy a car there in UAE, unless the car is a 2010/11 model. besides cars are bit cheaper in UAE because of recession.

It was to clarify me from any crimes, signed by mayor and stamped by the police. I believe you can prepare this kind of documents in both Arabic and English and take it to the police. Or you may ask your embassy. Good luck : )

Are single american women safe living and working in Saudi Arabia?
I'm looking at signing a 1 yr. contract job in Saudi Arabia and wondering how safe it is for single 30 y/o American women? The job is in Riyadh. I read online that in this area in particular, single women are pressured by Mutawwa to wear full length black abaya. And always long sleeves and ankle length skirts, no pants. Does anyone have any experience being or living in that area that can help?

If you make the decision to come to Saudi, then you will abide by the rules of the host country.. If you are a smoker and come to a house of a non smoker, do you just light up anyways? or do you respect the rules of the hostess house and not smoke whilst there?.. Same here.. IF women are required to dress modestly and wear a covering cloak (abaya) and a scarf,, then you either abide by these rules, or elect not to come here.. Simple.... NO ones twisting your arm forcing you here.. Anyways.. You will be perfectly safe.. There have been american women living and working safely in Saudiarabia for the past 75 years.. Some love it here so much that their children are now returning to work and live here.. I have many American friends that have been here for more than 30years on a stretch and absolutely love it here.. Certainly its not the place for everyone, some hate it.. But most love the good moral atmosphere and generocity of the people here. SaudiARabia as you know is a muslim governed country.. We are expected to live our good moral lives. Our Women dress concervatively while out and cover up to not to show our bodies.. We are respected for our minds, not our bodies as a piece of meat.. You will actually feel good about doing this here.. (and hey, it works for a bad hair day or if you just want to run into town in your PJ's and can toss over this cloak) You can wear whatever you like under the abaya.. We women are not prudes, we are fashionable and have all the same clothing that any girl does in the west.. We just dont show it out in public.. Depending on what town you will be in.. Jeddah in the west and Khobar in the east.. Those are very forward open minded towns.. I know see a trend to women wearing loose fitting slacks (not tight jeans painted on).. and longer tunic tops that come down to the thighs so as to cover a bit, and a decent scarf only.. no abaya.. as long as you are decently covered, it will be fine.. The religious police dont bother foreign women like the used to.. They are now becoming better about this, as long as you dont purposely do something like come out in town wearing cutoffs, or knee length dresses or flirt it up with a man in public... otherwise you will be fine here..

Well This what your life would be like For starters, you cannot: •Drive (culture, social and legal) •Sponsor a non-Saudi husband for residency (iqama) in the Kingdom (legal) •Visit a graveyard (although there is debate on this topic) (culture and religious) •Attend Friday prayers in a mosque unless there is a women section (there is also debate on this topic) (culture and religious) •Be alone with an unrelated man who is not a “sanctioned” relative (father, grandfather, brother, uncle, husband) (culture, social and legal) •Travel alone without approval of the male mahrem (culture, social and legal) What can they do? •Work •Have their own bank accounts •Have their own businesses •Own properties •Own businesses •Make investments •Have their own driver •Own a car YOU NEED A MALE TO LIVE WITH YOU ITS DRANGEROUS WITHOUT ONE.
3 :
I'm an atheist saudian guy i live in Saudi some of what the other guys said is true and some of it is not anyway it isn't dangerous as it sounds rather than boring since you can't drive in there ,have to wear abaya but people will do respect you i see how others (Saudians ) treat Americans with high respect if u needed any details about Riyadh ill be more than glad to tell u (cuz that's how boring living in Saudi i can waste time talking to strangers than the idiots on the streets) you can IM me or email me for further details
4 :
Americans are specially treated and specially protected by the saudi govt. Americans are sorta VIPs here, so its no problem. And times are getting changed here abaya thing is getting reduced day by day. So chill out, you wont face any problem :)
5 :
Well, Riyadh is really become more relax on some things. You would have to still wear the abaya, it has to be black, but it doesn't have to be plain. You'll see beautiful abayas here, full with blings and embroideries. You should have a head scarf handy, just in case someone bothers you. But, it is saver just to wear the head scarf so you'll blend with the crowds. What you wear under your abaya is your own business. I see women wears capri pants, flip-flop, and even jammies. When you work though, you would have to wear long sleeves and long skirts, in some places, they even want you to wear black skirts only. If you decide to come to Saudi, come with an open mind. It's a fairly save country, saver than most places in the western world. Enjoy your time here, enjoy another atmosphere and experience the way Saudi Arabia is. Every place is different, if you come with an open mind and low expectations, you'll enjoy it, God willing.
6 :
everyone is save in Saudi arab as long as i know unless you wont try to be bad
7 :
They lifted the driving ban on women. My husband lives in Riyadh, and I have Saudi in-laws scattered throughout Saudi Arabia. Riyadh is VERY conservative, unlike Jeddah which is sadly westernized and open. The Muttawa are known to harass women if they don't wear abaya properly so be prepared for that. I suggest you research the laws of Saudi Arabia/Riyadh in particular before you bother going there.
8 :
I think it's experience should have fun with Does not assume there is no experience of the difficulties that are afraid of them Just an Islamic city, the province needs some modification in behavior modification may not even be annoying to those class Do not be afraid We have a donut and we have Mac and Burger King and Pizza Hut are the lives of modern Muslim You will not see any significant difference in the life there is only a sharp drop in crime rate I hope to have fun with life there
9 :
Your 30, and hung up over what you are going to be wearing. Even when all the other women are wearing the same thing. You need to read more about Saudi Arabia if the only thing in your mind is the abaya.

This is possible. As a matter of fact there is nowhere in the Immigration or Labour Law of Saudi Arabia that suggests that an NOC is required to be issued another working visa to a person who exited the place. However, to my experience, the authorities are being cautios nowadays due to personnel piracy which is rampant in the KSA. To protect the hiring companies from cases or sues from another companies - NOC's are sometimes being required. However, many people are succeeding in going back without NOC and that is by changing or renewing their passports.

What are the precautions I should be aware of?

There arent many precautions that you'd have to take. Saudi Arabia is a normal country, just like any other! Only difference is women have less rights, the pay is higher, culture and religion is different. Weekends are Thursdays and Fridays & if you happened to rape or murder somone you would be beheaded. Other than this, there isnt any precautions. Saudi Arabia is a very safe place to work & live. You'll find the people extremley pleasant and overall they have higher standards than those from the Western World. (im from the UK now working in Dammam, Saudi Arabia). Its a great place to work and live but they do drive a little crazy. Get a BIG vehicle!

you will be perfectly fine.. Saudi is normal, we are not at war with anyone.. never have been.. Crime is low compared to the rest of the world.. The only thing you'll worry about is our traffic.. People drive like mad men on the roads and Riyadh is the worst of our traffic situations.. You might find out religious culture a bit boring if you are the type that likes to drink, go to clubs, discos, theaters etc.. We dont do that.. but you can find entertainment elsewhere... like if you like football (soccer) or cricket.. you'll find buddies about that play.. you can go fishing, go to coffee shops and chat with friends, there are things you can do.. just get out there and find some of your countrymen and they'll show you about.. welcome and goodluck with your new job! ^_^

People here respect others especially those who are different than them . i have friends from many different countries and they are happy here ... try to make friends , enjoy and be satisfied . you may find it difficult at the beginning , but every thing will be ok .. if you felt bored in Riyadh ,, try to visit Jeddah :-) ... Jeddah is a very nice city which is full of entertainment .. Good luck

hey, I'm a Saudi boy, just don't worry, you'll be in a very safe spot in the worldwide, nothing to take precaution about except as ppl've mentioned here, on road you have to adapt yourself with a real reckless and irrational driving, since most of mortalities are resulted of road accidents. hmm, also you will be shocked with different cultural habits but that's not a matter coz you'll get accustomed to them as you get there, anyway, best of wishes for your new job, and hope you'll have the best stay here. your welcome to KSA, your second home ;-) wanna knw smthn else u may pm me at hiddenpassions3@yahoo.com and sorry4the bad Eng
