At present i am working in saudi arabia. My contract is up to 2009.But i have good opportunity in UAE.If i go now from saudi,my company will not let me go with exit stamp. There will be Exit Reentry stamp on my passport. If i go with exit reentry stamp on my passport,is there any problem going to other UAE country for job purpose?

yes! you will probably strip searched pre deaparture though.
2 :
There is no problem with your taking a trip to the UAE if you have an Exit/Reentry visa, and while you are there, you may certainly meet with prospective employers, but you are expected to return to KSA to settle your job affairs and depart on an Exit visa if you intend to take a job in the UAE. Is it entirely enforceable? No, but you may have problems if you ever wanted to go back to KSA.

Question for Ramadan, why did a man from Saudi Arabia tell my father this

Question for Ramadan, why did a man from Saudi Arabia tell my father this?
My father when i was very young went to work in Saudi Arabia. While there he made friends. His last day there he was saying goodbye to everyone and was talking to a good friend he had made. The man told him something like "You're such a good man, its too bad you're going to hell." My father thinks this is because he is a Catholic, and the man is Muslim. Is it? The man didn't say it in a rude way or anything.
Ramadan - 9 Answers

1 :
I dunno, I would never say this to anyone. Anyways, I guess so, and what the Saudi man probably meant is for your father to at least look into or study Islam because then he will maybe find the truth in it and convert to Islam. :)
2 :
Catholic people go to Heaven don't mind that Muslim
3 :
He's joking. People in Saudi Arabia have a weird sense of humor. Trust me, he is. Edit: Before I was muslim I had moved to Saudi Arabia for 3 of my summers in Riyadh. I wasn't muslim and I made a lot of friends there. They are great people. But you must remember this is a totally different culture than the west. SO therefore they have a different sense of humor. Once a woman whom I visited her house for an essay I was doing. I asked her "Why do women in saudi arabia cover up" (in much respect). She said "Well, our husbands and male relatives force it upon us." I stood there thinking woah? She used a serious tone too. I asked "Why?" And she replied, "Judy, I'm only joking with you! Do you people in the west actually believe that?". They do joke around with their culture which is good.
4 :
don't know what was in his mind, christians are given a chance to go to heaven. did your father happen to steal a loaf of bread? Verily! Those who believe and those who are Jews and Christians, and Sabians, whoever believes in God and the Last Day and do righteous good deeds shall have their reward with their Lord, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve . [Qur'an 2:62]
5 :
MAybe he was sincerely concerned for his fellow human being... The Qu'ran says that anyone who worships something other than God alone, and dies in this belief without repenting, will never be forgiven by God... So Christians worship Jesus, a creation, instead of the Creator, which... I'm sorry to be frank with you but I'm just telling you what we believe, is an act of treason against God. Qu'ran says that the sky nearly tears open and the mountains nearly crumble at the idea that someone would worship a human being or ascribe to God a son... I'm not trying to offend you... I'm just stating what we believe... that to worship Jesus is a serious error... as Muslims we believe in JEsus... he is mentioned in the Qu'ran... as a Prophet and the JEwish messiah who performed miracles... but He was not Divine... to be Divine is to be no one's son [uncreated].. to be someones son is to NOT be Divine... can't be both... so to persist in such beliefs is very bad from the Muslim perspective... But I'm sure it was not meant to be offensive [and I am not meaning to be offensive]... it was just one religious man looking out for another person who he perceived to be a good person [your father]. Hope this clears it up. :-)
6 :
say hi to ur father .. and tell him that we Muslims cant judge or know who's going to heaven or who's going to hell .. on;y god can judge all of us Muslims and Christians.
7 :
He said that because Muslims believe anyone who is not a Muslim will go to hell. The only Christians and Jews that won't are those who came before Muhammed. Even though the quran states Christians and Jews will go to heaven it negates that verse by saying any who assign partners to God, such as Christians do with Jesus, the Son of God, will go to hell.
8 :
Your father should become muslim.
9 :
it is because your father is not muslim however your father will one day, go to heaven because he is a person of the book but sadly, we believe he will go to hell for a while thats just what we believe take it or leave it and dont take offense to it

Will working in Saudi Arabia disqualify me from receiving a Top Secret security clearance in the future

Will working in Saudi Arabia disqualify me from receiving a Top Secret security clearance in the future?
I am considering taking a job in Saudi Arabia, teaching the members of their Air Force how to properly fix their jets. The company that I would be working for is an American owned and operated company, working on a contract with the Saudi Air Force. When I return I plan on pursuing a job that requires a Top Secret clearance. Could this hurt me in the future in any way?

It depends on what you'll be doing in Saudi Arabia. If your working for a US company in Saudi Arabia then you'll be okay as long as you don't buy property or make the wrong friends over there. If your working for a private Saudi company, then it's going to be tough but if the company is clean and your clean and your honest then you'll be well off. If you work for the Saudi government or a company contracted to the saudi government then that's when it gets as a disadvantage. in your case I wouldn't worry too bad. The company your in already has ties to the state department because that line of work has government oversight. Doing your job over there isn't going to hurt you but I'd advise you to think very carefully about all the things you do when your not working. Riyadh is pretty fun and has a great night life but if you want that TS I would advise partying to hard over there.

No...USA TV sets will not function in Saudi Arabia. They use the French SECAM transmission system, so a French TV might work there...

Usually you find an employment agency in your own country and tell them that you are interested in working in Saudi and give them your CV so they know what kind of a job you are qualified for. Then when a Saudi company needs employees from other countries they will go to the agencies in that country and if they have a vacancy that you are qualified to fill then they will contact you through the agency.

1. Change in Profession has to be done by ur sponsor. Contact the management in your firm. They can help u out, if they want?? 2. Family Visa: After you got the profession changed. Approach Internal Ministery with the Service letter from ur company, Attested degree certificates, Your marriage certificate translated in Arabic, your passport and Iqama copies. You also have to pay 2000 SR fees for the Visa in any of the banks and submit the reciept along with the application.
2 :
.......you can't bring your family because your iqama's profession is labor.....the only allowed are engineers, planners, nurses, etc. with a minimum basic salary of SR3,000 and up..... .....if you want to change your profession, it will be the responsible of your company if they agree to that.....but mostly they will not agree for a transfer because its a long process and money is involved.....

I live and work in Saudi Arabia and i have UK work permit too. Now my company here in Saudi wants to invest on

I live and work in Saudi Arabia and i have UK work permit too. Now my company here in Saudi wants to invest on?
me and learn me new things and products and it will beneficial for me money vise and experience wise. But they also want me to sign a four year bond, meaning to say , after signing the bond i should not resign from company other wise there is penalty and i would have to pay some good amount of money if i do so. I wanted to move to UK and i may get good opportunity there too but as this is period of downturn i may face problems there but i can manage because i am single. So thing is i am confused between staying here with my current employer and sign four year bond or move to UK.? Staying here means i may able to make money and make some more after i get experience in new product and moving to UK means i will get opportunities like learning there culture and different cultures and improve my self in alot of things and getting new experiences in life. I know some people may suggest to move to UK after 4 years with my current employer but i am not getting any younger. I want to do things and experience things and take risks while i am still single. And it will be alot difficult for sure if i have family on my own. I am in software and the new product the employer want me to learn and invest is SAP which is higly renowned around the world. Experience in that product means good money and good job opportunities. And one should understand that work experience in country like UK is also too demanding and the doors for improvements there are alot because working environment there in UK for sure is professional. So what to do? And tell me about the bond and how it works in Saudi Arabia. If i do sign and try to break after a year or so , will i face the penalties for sure? What other penalties can be other than paying money? Please advice and i really need it.

I would highly suggest signing the bond no one can even find jobs anymore and you will gain great experience plus many times if you find a good job and tell them the bond u signed they might pay it or part of it plus this way you have the option of staying with your current employer or paying the penalty and moving elsewhere Best of luck
2 :
bro, can u summerize ur Q. it reminds me with "Crime and Punishment" ;)
3 :
I have no idea what you should do. You have a tough decision to make. Good luck in whatever you choose.
4 :
Well I really have no idea what kind of penalties you could face if you broke your contract, that all depends on what is in the contract so be sure to read it well. Typically in Saudi they will either hold a month or 2 of your pay or take a small percentage out of serveral months of your pay, again depending on the wording of your contract and you get that back at the end of your contract but if you brake your contract you will not get it back. I would suggest asking them for a 1 or 2 year contract instead of 4 then in a year or 2 you can see what the economy is like and if you think you have a better chance somewhere else or if you want to stay here. Good luck to you!
5 :
Hey, First Have you done istakhara . UK is a really awesome opportunity but as stated before you in your 30s, it will take time to get yourself settled in the UK and go by their rules and regulations . Down here in KSA I am pretty sure you know every street by street rule and regulations and I know you have a huge family down here and so. And due to the economic crisis everyone is having a problem finding a job and opportunities all around the world. I suggest that you stay in KSA , sign for the 4 year bond . And mashallah your boss wants to invest in you that is like a hell of a good opportunity. And hey you can always take a two week vacation and visit the UK and learn their culture and all what you like to do there. You should be happy you have a country and be proud of it. But all of that is my advice you should balance things out and see which place is better for you (imagine the scale :UK and benefits in one and KSA and benefits in the other )you decide yourself

Should an American, working in Saudi Arabia, have facial hair as a sign of respecting Saudi culture

Should an American, working in Saudi Arabia, have facial hair as a sign of respecting Saudi culture?
I am going to be working in Riyadh in an official capacity and want to be best prepared to "fit in" to my new host culture. What are the tips to make this transition? I want to remove barriers between me and others with simplicity and honesty so I can begin work after doing my cultural homework.

i would to show that your not there saying "hey look at me im american and im take all your women and have no facial hair" but dont claim that your doing it for any special purpose. grow it before you get ther otherwise they might think you are trying to be something your not.
2 :
I spent a year working in Baghdad, a muslum country. Not once did I see any man with a beard. A few had a moustache but no beards.
3 :
I'd say no. Would they shave as a sign of respect for your culture if they came to your country? If they visited your church would they wear a cross? If you went to parts of India would you wear a turban? If it's not your custom then don't bother. It would only appear fake. When I served in Afghanistan there were some who said that because of their position they needed to grow beards to fit in. After a month or two these same people shaved once the locals and elders told them they didn't need to do that and could just be themselves. Go, enjoy their culture, do your job, be respectful and enjoy it all. Anything more then that just seems fake to me.
4 :
Ok no offense to the other answerer but Baghdad is very different than Saudia... Muslim men, especialy in Saudia tend to wear beards as to follow the example of The Prophet(pbuh)...but if you are not Muslim, please don't try to pretend you are....If you want to grow a beard do it...but it is not nessisary to earn respect of Muslims. I have some other ideas for you... When you shake a mans hand always use your right hand, or if you wave to say hello, always your right hand, same with passing money or food etc...the left hand is considered unclean, and might be a bit of an insult. Please cover your body..I mean from your stomach to your mid calf. Showing your knees by wearing shorts is not appropriate in Muslim Countries like Saudia...so since its so hot there I recomend lots of linnen clothing..it is the best for desert heat. If you happen to be invited to a home of a coleage, don't look to his wife's face..should she even present herself. lower your gaze, it is a sign that you respect him and her. Muslims do not expect you to behave as a Muslim unless you are such...but trying to present yourself as a clean, honest, honerable person will find you better luck. When you hear the loud call to prayer in the streets (called Azaan) you should make sure that your music/television etc is at a low sound until it is finished. Also you may find that someone may pause from negotiations or conversation at this time to make a short speech to Allah(swt)
5 :
People will respect you for your character, abilities, tolerance and willingess to learn about the place that hosts you. Simplicity and honesty will take you far. Nevertheless, I really dont think that immitating external appearances, shows respect.
6 :
In general it is a personal choice to have facial hair in any Muslim country. It is a sign of piety for Muslims to have a full beard. It shows that you are following Suna, prophet Mohammad's path. Nevertheless, you will find lots of Muslims in many Muslim countries with no facial hair. My opinion, go ahead and let the facial hair grow; you will blend in better in specially in Riyadh.
7 :
changing the way you look is not necessarily a sign of respect, but it is an adaptation step to the environment you are going to live in. it is rare to see foreigners having facial hair in general here. some US diplomats actually grew facial hair (goaties or beards) in order to meddle with their environment and not to be easily spotted (security reasons post 2003 attacks). because as you know a hairless face in saudi arabia is mostly sported by europeans or westerners alike. furthermore, men grow beards in saudi arabia out of piousness, because the prophet pbuh had a beard.
8 :
im a saudi women.. husband saudi.. and there are plenty of saudi men who dont have facial hair.. its up to you.. So dont assume everyone has.. there are plenty that dont.. All you need for respect is "treat others how you would want to be treated"... the golden rule.. fits all be polite.. allow the host to lead the tone... ask if you are confused... smile a lot... dont chat up their women... you will be fine... (no drinking alcohol, no public dating, no disco's, no cinema, no pork, no pornography, no open religion propogation of another faith)
9 :
Hey, i'm saudi american, and NO! you don't have to grow hair as a sign of respect, it's only the super religious guys who do that, most of the men don't, so don't worry about it ;p.
10 :
lol no you don't have to, the majority of Saudis don't' grow their beards. but i have a small tip! use some Arabic words, that wold leave a good impression about you like: Shukran = thank you Afwan = you are welcome Inshallah (the most important one!) = hopefully and DON'T ever use your left hand when you are giving or receiving something
11 :
noope
12 :
.....its not necessary but if you like it though there's no problem about it you can have facial hair as you want......respect is gained through proper actions and attitudes in dealing with them like for example being humble and simple......
13 :
No this is not necessary at all. Being a male in Saudia Arabia, you have much more freedom than females. In all honesty being an American is also an advantage as in general American are favoured more than other nationalities. They will love you more if you wear the traditional male attire.
14 :
you seem respectful Welcome here.
15 :
no dude , you don't have to , lots of saudi men don't have facial hair , its just a matter of what each person prefers . but its really respectful of you to consider that .. :) , welcome to ksa ! . and i think ull fit in just fine .
16 :
LOL most Saudis either have a goatee or a 70s style mustache. Take your pick
17 :
People will respect you for respecting Saudi culture that is all
18 :
who cares dude, be your self and let it go, i'm saudi and sick of my culture.
19 :
You've opened a Pandora's box. Different people are going to give you many different versions of life. The expat community in SA resides mainly in heavily guarded compounds which prevents them from actually enjoying the country and mingling with the locals. There is so much to tell you about life in Saudi Arabia that I couldn't possibly fit it here but I'll try to sum it up. People think SA is a big sandbox but I assure you, it's not. There is beauty, culture, religion and heritage all rolled into one. Depending on which part of the country you go to, you can see mountains, lush vegetation and yes, lots of sand but even the sand is beautiful. I recently took a road trip from Jeddah to Madain Saleh (the Nabatean Tombs) in the north and it was the most beautiful experience I've ever had. The desert sky at nigh is breath-taking. I never saw so many stars. The landscape made us speechless. And let me tell you, sand can be fun too. We actually stopped on the way and climbed up a sand dune. It was really nice. Anyways, the point is, SA is a blend of east and west. There may be veiled women, mosques and lots of sand but there is also hospitality, shopping malls and Starbucks (yum!!). Trust me, people will be very welcoming. You don't have to have facial hair. You don't need to dress a certain way (jeans and t-shirts will do fine....or suits since you said you'll be working in an official capacity) or do anything religious. Just make sure you don't use your left hand for anything, don't try to shake hands with a woman and never refuse an invitation for dinner. Arabs are extremely hospitable and love entertaining guests. I hope you enjoy your stay here. P.S. Muslims pray five times a day so be prepared for five 'breaks' plus lunchtime everyday. Also, social events usually happen at night so e.g if you go to someone's house for dinner, don't expect to come home before 1 or 2 AM. Malls and restaurants are also open till the wee hours of the night.
20 :
If you depart from your own culture and appearance too much. Then you will look like a phony to people around you. And that will destroy your credibility in their eyes. Perhaps you will fit in a little better there if you grow a western style moustache. But it won't make a big difference. Saudi Arabia doesn't accept permanent immigrants. And people there don't expect foreigners to assimilate, the way people expect it in USA. Some people there might even get offended if you start dressing and behaving too much like they do. Many Saudis see themselves as being better than people of other nationalities. And they don't like foreign pretenders who try to usurp their high social status in Saudi Arabia.

Hello Naveen, Think you must contact the embassy to organize such things. First ask for information to make sure the things you want are possible.
2 :
Well without a family connection (relationship, claim to nationality etc) then to get a work visa then you would basically need an employer to be prepared to offer you a position and then they would have to apply for a work permit on your behalf. That work permit would not be granted unless it was proven that the job is of such a specialist nature that no-one else in the total pool of labour from (not just the Netherlands but the) whole EEA area. Therefore even a University graduate with no work experience is going to struggle to meet the requirements even in with the right ecomony (ie loads of jobs and few applicants) You can read more about the details of it here in a question I answered a while ago for another American interested in the same. It gives links to the IND (Dutch immigration site), how to look for jobs and accommodation as well. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Au4FSM_iOwVeAeSn5NGVt4fty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20081029005645AAYhd63 (saving me retyping and also this turning out to be a very long answer!) So read the link I gave you first, and then you can follow up with details on: http://www.ind.nl/EN/verblijfwijzer/ - immigration dept wizard http://www.ind.nl/en/Images/4012_VIN_ENG_tcm6-595.pdf - immigration dept overview (brochure) Another good source is the expat sites and you can check forums as well to see people who have "been there, done that" http://www.justlanded.com/english/Nether… http://holland.angloinfo.com/ http://www.expatica.com/nl/main.html I do have a couple of Indian friends who came here as highly skilled migrants, and their employers followed this process to sponsor them, but they have very specialist IT skills for which it is hard to find labour still within the Netherlands - so it is completely dependant on you, your education, background, work experience, skillset (etc) as to how easy or hard this is going to be

be prepared to have all of your money taken in taxes and given to the royal family. also, dont be suprised if the police come in your house and randomly take your stuff. oh yeh, and last thing, good luck with the Saudi warlords

Convert to Islam and carry a Koran wherever you go. They'll treat you like family. If you are a Christian, hide that fact. Bad news. And get some sunscreen.

1. Respect the people. 2. Keep of political interfearances. 3. Keep cool and try to be honest with your employer. 4. Never interfear when you see some thing that you dont like. 5. Never try to be European when you are at the beach. 6. If you are European, then be with them and make friends with educated people so you can be guided while you are there. 7. In general it is possible to import an animal into KSA but is subject to quarantine in an IATA approved kennel. 1. Check out if pets are permitted in the compound where you will live. 2. Check if your chosed airline will transport animals and how they transport them and their requirements. 3. Visit a Vet and get vaccination certificate 4. Visit official Govt. Vet and get health certificate 5. Send these papers to the Saudi Embassy for confirmation. Call the Embassy first and ask for the fees. 6. Please note that vaccination might have to be done 4 weeks prior moving date. Take care and good luck.
3 :
It may be possible. There are some restricted breeds that won’t be allowed to enter in any circumstances. When we moved here we found new homes for our dogs, because we thought that the quarantine would be too traumatic for them. There are these really great vet clinics operating in a few Saudi cities, I always take my pets there, check their website out. Contact them, they are very helpful and friendly, it might just spare you a lot of heartache if something was to happen to your dog (I have heard of horrible stories of peoples pet that have just "disappeared", "could not be located" upon arrival in Saudi Arabia). I am also pretty sure that Saudi Airlines does not take pets anymore, so if you were planning on traveling with them it’s a good idea to plan alternatively. http://saudivets.com/bring.html Good luck

5 :
yes u can take it, check with ur local airline office, they will guide properly.
6 :
Yes. You will have to contact the Saudi embassy nearest you and fine out what the regulations are. I lived there for a long time and knew many people who brought their pets.

no just buy a chiller
2 :
40 C is about 104 F. with the A/C on? How much light you have and how long you leave it on? If the A/C is on all the time and the room is cool, you may have too much light or the aquarium is getting too much exposure to the sunlight or too close to the house wall that is getting direct sun hitting it. If the wall is the problem put some insulation between the tank and the wall. Adding ice will only shock your fish. You may have to buy a chiller for your size Aquarium.
3 :
Ice won't do the trick here neither will frozen water bottles. Ice is not dechlorinated or treated and it will simply melt leaving the temps to rise again. at 40 all of your beneficial bacteria is going to start to die off as well. this happens at around 95F. Fans or a chiller is what you really need to drop the temperature since you need to get it down more than 20F.

hmm.... yes that's the worst part for expatriates in KSA.. I guess if your company doesn't give you exit, then the only way will be to ask them for a vacation which will be done through a EXIT-RE-ENTRY .. once u get that in ur passport n all ur dues n account is cleared, u can go to ur home country BUT they will NOT pay u the service charge bcz the idea will be that u will come back after vacations. Many saudi owners use this trick for their employees to escape from paying them huge amount of service charge ( usually 60,000 SAR - 1 LAKH SAR ) .. The service charge is must to be paid to the employees at the time of leaving the company.. so thats the reason the owners DONT put EXIT in ur passport.. only an EXIT-RE-ENTRY... so, once u go back to ur home country... u have to wait for 3 months or depending for how much time ur visa is valid...Then once that expires, you can come back to saudi arabia with another visa- If another company provides u the visa, u can come in that visa to saudi arabia or u should have some relative to sponsor it for u... like brother, uncle etc...

I'm going to Saudi Arabia in the summer to visit around, & I was hoping to get the Sims 2 Expansion Packs that I want from there. However, I'm not sure if they'll work on my laptop or computer since I live in Canada. Same with India, not sure about if they'll work here either. I'm not sure if the Sims 2 Ep's they sell there are indeed by EA Games, but I believe they are. Does anyone know if they'll work? Thanks in advance guys!

Saudi of course, they pay a lot better than US its all depend with the kind of job, i have friends who left US to go and work in Saudi they get paid very well and live better lifestyle than some people in US, all i can say is do your research wherever you decide to go and looks at pros and cons like any country the both have advantage and disadvantage
4 :
It depends. If your are a guy who is looking for Money (just money) It is Saudi Arabia. If you are a guy who can not compromise the joy of life in general, it is the USA. Well I assumed slavery, poverty, emptiness, and injustice will affect terribly the joy of life. I witnessed this in Saudi Arabia. By the way, I'm an Arab observer who lived in the USA and who has great deal of connections with Saudi Arabia, plus I visited it two months ago. Good Luck

will, Saudi Arabia is much better if u want money and nothing else, in USA, if you get paid 1000 $ or 99999$ you will spend them before the month ends, this is the Capitalism

You have to look for a job first. Go online and you'll find a bunch recruitment agencies which offer jobs. Apply for a suitable one and if you get lucky you will get contacted. http://www.oilcareers.com/regions/732/SAUDIARABIA_eng_mechanical_engineering.asp http://www.learn4good.com/jobs/language/english/list/engineering/saudi_arabia/ http://www.gulfjobsites.com/ http://www.naukrigulf.com/ni/nijobsearch/loc-jobs-saudi/ The rules are as follows: All foreign nationals, except GCC nationals, taking up employment or residence in Saudi Arabia must have a sponsor. The process consist of the following steps: 1. Employment Permit: Obtained by the Saudi Arabian company. 2. Residence Permit: Submitted along with the Employment Permit. 3. Visa Processing: Submitted at the Saudi Consulate with jurisdiction over the foreign national's current legal place of residence. Requirements: 1. An application for an Employment Permit must be made by the local sponsor--a company existing under the laws of Saudi Arabia. Foreign entities may not sponsor Employment Permits. 2. The application is submitted to the Ministry of Labor which verifies that the foreign national is required for the work. 3. Upon approval, the Ministry of Labor forwards the application to the Ministry of Interior who is responsible for approving the residence permit (Iqamas). 4. Generally, women are not eligible for work permits. Exceptions may be made for nurses and teachers. In addition, individuals of certain religious faiths are not eligible for work permits. 5. All Employment Permit beneficiaries must be at least twenty-two years old. 6. The documents required to obtain an Employment Permit vary depending on the type of organization and the position being filled. The Employment Permits are issued for a maximum period of two years and may be extended. 7. Family members who will be accompanying the employee to Saudi Arabia must be included in the Residence Permit process. 8. Once the employee's Employment Permit is approved, application for a visa must be made to the Saudi Consulate with jurisdiction over the employee's legal current place of residence. Most commonly Requested documents (for Visa Processing): Please note that the Saudi Consulate reserves the right to request additional information and/or documentation. Also, most documents must be authenticated and legalized by the proper authority. 1. Completed application form (white); 2. Certified and notarized copy of the educational degrees with official transcripts; 3. Copy of signed contract; 4. Original letter of Invitation certified by the Saudi Chamber of Commerce; 5. Police Certificates; 6. Medical Report; 7. Three (3) passport-size photographs; and, 8. Application fee. Work visas are initially issued to foreign workers for one to three months after which a formal work permit is required. Residence Permits are only issued after a work visa has been granted and it is the responsibility of the employer to organize these permits for employees and dependent relatives. Take care

Im assuming you are a male.. Your best bet if you are walking in front of the lobby and where the public could view you, you should wear some gym pants/sweat pants over the shorts, and just remove those once you get to the gym... But as for in the gym itself.. shorts is fine as long as they arent those sheer nylon reveiling shorts cut up to your backside cheeks I see some daring men try to wear (God knows why they wear them)
2 :
yes but they cant go lower then your knees
3 :
Well of course yes ! But not outside or even in the lobby. Lobby becomes a public domain and people will be offended by this. Chance is - you will get a pat from the hotel staff to change. I've scuba dived at Nakheel Beach south of Jeddah (awesome cliff !!! wall diving down to 15-20 meters) and going back to Red Sea Palace Hotel - I was wearing my basketball shorts and T-shirt. Just alighting from the service bus front of the hotel (opposite the Al Balad Souk) I was instantly the street star attaction due to mmy wearing of shorts !!! . I ran to the hotel door just like hell as if Im up against Carl Lewis in a 100 meter sprint !!!

It depends on the city and area, if you are coming to Jeddah,Riyadh,Mecca,Medina then you no need to pay high rent if you are coming to Eastern proveince like,Dammam,Al-khobar,Al-jubail then you have to pay high amount, its different rentals, food stuff is little bit expensive here as we compare to other cities.but can survive in this salary but hard to save. Local transport is ok manageable

thats about 10,088sr per mo.. which really isnt that bad for a bachelor.. I dont know what the first poster thought.. you didnt tell us what your nationality is or what the job is and what your qualifications are.. Saudi has work/trade agreements with different nations.. for example an engineer from USA will obviously be paid much more than an engineer from India in exactly the same position.. but still I think 10,088 Riyals a month is excellent starting pay..

If I buy a ps3 or wii or xbox 360 from the U.S, will it work in Saudi arabia?
Will it work on their tv and would there games work on it
PlayStation - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Wii - I don't know. This is not the Nintendo section. Xbox 360 - I don't know. This is not the Xbox section. PS3 - It depends on your TV setup. It will work if you are using HDMI on HDTV. If you aren't, then you have to deal with the NTSC (USA) and PAL (Saudi Arabia) Standard Definition resolution differences. Your TV would need to be capable of displaying NTSC resolution or you would need a NTSC to PAL converter. As for the games, well, the same issue applies. They would have to be developed to work on an NTSC console. A lot of them are, but there are some that aren't, like Grand Theft Auto IV, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, and Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. Some people may be quick to say yes and say how the games being region free is the reason why, but being region free does not fix PAL and NTSC compatibility.
2 :
I don't know about the tv, though i assume so because my sister took her wii from to the US to Japan and it works on their tvs. As for the games, they are all region specific. If you'll want to play new games, you will need to order them online and have them shipped to you.

If they have their network locked down there will be nothing you can do. If you try a free proxy and it infects the network with a virus you will be to blame. Unlike public networks where blocked sites are fairly easy to deal with a corporate network is behind their firewall and they have total control of ports, ip addresses and things. If they have ports properly locked down, the internal ip addresses properly locked down and a black list on the firewall you will not be able to get through with a VPN. I suggest you skip the idea of beating your companies firewall and risk losing your job or worse. Get yourself a laptop or mobile device and surf on that instead. If the local ISP is blocking web sites that you need to get to then a personal VPN will solve that problem easily. In this way you can get to any web site you want anywhere and not risk your job.

not that much! Most Saudi women dont work. Except for immigrants. For example, Im half egyptian half american, my mom is egyptian and she works. Her friend is saudi but she doesnt. They have this tradition that women shud be staying home, cleaning and doing chores! But that was long ago! Now I can tell 50% work and the others dont.

4 :
It's a very safe place to live and work.
5 :
It all depends on which job it is and the degree of compromise you are ready to take up while staying here. You want to come to Saudi means you've got a job which promises you some amount of money which you cannot get in your present job or the place you live in. Saudi is a typically male dominated country where women have almost nil participation in the professional arena. However these days we are experiencing a minor wave of changes, where girls are to be seen in the corporates. More and more girls are getting higher education and instead of going to other countries are managing to secure a job here. Only once the Govt. or a Father or a Brother or a Son of the girls start understanding the magnanimity of what they are losing by putting half the population under dark covers, will things change for good here. There is already a Co-ed university in Jeddah and I hear another 3-4 are coming up. Offcourse there were opposition from some uneducated idio.ts. But King stood firm and continued this process. Just waiting for Ladies' to drive like the rest of the world ! It's safer here if you take care of yourself properly.
6 :
Good question, I want to know myself...I'm not sure if women are allowed to work...maybe they make women-only buildings for them, just my imagination, I need to do some research lol. I guess it differs from whether the woman is Saudi or not too

The country and government are too Islamic Conservative, most marriages there are arranged, and apart from among the western minority there, the dating scene is extremely small. If you did set a online dating website up, it would probably be shut down fairly quickly. Also, remember that alcohol is banned there, and most people there look down on sex before marriage, and that women are made to wear the hijab, and many choose to wear fully covering obayas (think that's how you spell this, not sure, sorry). Also you could be liable for prosecution there, and that really could go badly, they still have alot of capital sharia punishment there. Basically, it's a no go-er very few people, if anyone, would use the site, and it would be in extreme danger of being shut down by the authorities there. Hope this helps :)

On Line dating has flaws and corruption is always a factor in everything man touches . Saudi has different laws regarding marriage than here in the states of America so I would think it would not be as received as it is here unless its arranging marriages for people that have never met. now that would work...wink DINO

woww........i don't live in saudi Arabia but i don't think so...
4 :
if both parties are ok wid that than why not. ?
5 :
Yes, there are such sites. It is different than the american version but has the same idea. The Saudi version is meant for marriage not plain dating..
6 :
My cousin met his wife there, and they have a beautiful child.

I know if you buy a blackberry and bring it to saudi it will work but im not sure about the iphone. I guess it's cause everyone here has blackberrys. I think you have to take it to mobily and get them to make it work for you. But trust me once your here you'll want a blackberry :) Good luck !
2 :
Your iPhone is locked to AT&T. You can use it in Saudi Arabia with AT&T but your bill will be enormous. AT&T Standard International Roaming in Saudi Arabia is $2.49/minute.

I am a Hindu? I wish to work in Saudi Arabia. Will I be forced to convert to Islam

I am a Hindu? I wish to work in Saudi Arabia. Will I be forced to convert to Islam?
The grapevine is that non Muslims face continual harassment and peer pressure from Arab Muslim colleagues and Saudi govt. clerics to convert to Islam? Even your visa renewal prospects are supposed to depend whether you embrace or reject Islam? Please advise?

Sounds hard to believe since there's always a lot of workers there from western countries but also from India and the Philippines. You do hear a lot of stories of non-western workers being treated like shit and I do believe there's some truth there.
2 :
There are many Hindu workers in Saudi Arabia it is actually very safe if you do not break the law and follow the rules 100%. Just dont walk around during Prayer times or make offensive remarks in public.
3 :
Are you a Hindu? Seems like it. Will you face continual harassment and pressure from Arab Muslim collegues and Saudi Govt clerics to convert to Islam? NO. Where did you get nonsense from? Your visa renewal got nothing to do with your Religion at all. You may have more Indian colleques than Arabs:))
4 :
nobody is going to force u. there r many non muslims in saudi arabia u just cant enter mecca and medina. however im sure u will face too much harassment and disrespect in many situations like when u will tell ur name to someone.
5 :
There are thousands of non muslims living and working in SaudiArabia.. christians, jews, hindus, buddists, and others.. No one forces them to convert.. and they've obviously had their visa renewed several times or they'd not been allowed to remain.. I dont think you'd be harrassed, but yes, people will ask you and people will try to talk to you about Islam, all you have to do is remain respectful and say thankyou, i'll look into it.. and then go your own way and at least you didnt cause any harm.. Its when you become confrontational and start arguing or saying something like "Islam?!!!! why would I want to join that terrorist cult?"... this is only an example, but certainly you wouldnt say anything like that.. Just respect all here and you will be respected..
6 :
definitely not
7 :
u hav a completely wrong idea.
8 :
i really woudn't recommend working in saudi arabia, because they do pressure u tp convert to islam.
9 :
Your religion doesn't do anything with your visa. all stories you mentioned completely false!

I am having a work visa in saudi arabia. Can I convert it to family visa now?

if your profession is labour than it may not get converted at all to family status but if your profession is salesman or accountant or any other blue collar jobs it would not be trouble, sometime the sponsor are not ready for converting the visa to family status and they often find it an escape to blame regulations
2 :
Are you in Saudi Arabia? If you're not here already, I doubt your employer will change your status to family after they already issued you a single visa. You would have to request from your employer to change your status to family. It might take a while for approval and for your family to join you. Also, you have to make more than 3000 SAR a month (I think that's the number now) and you cannot have labor as your occupation. If your occupation is labor, then you need to get that changed before you can change to a family visa.
3 :
If they stopped, why are you asking? You can convert it only if your sponsor approves.
4 :
No, because a work visa is only issued to one person to work in the kingdom for a specific period of time as stated in your contract with the sponsor. If you want to bring your family, you should apply with your sponsor and justify that you can support them during their stay with you in the saudi arabia. If your sponsor is convinced, then they will help you for your application for a family status visa with the immigration dept. Try to talk with your employer about this.

The immigration rules and requirements for Canada can be found online: https://www.migrationexpert.com/canada/register.asp?type=1 http://www.cic.gc.ca/ Don't forget to obtain a Police clearance certificate from the Saudi Authorities as long as you are in the country. After leaving KSA you will not be able to get one.

.....its better to have job prospects already in dubai before you go there.....because visit visa for dubai, the maximum is only 15 days after that you have to go out of dubai. 15 days is not enough to look for a job there and you cant use your saudi arabia visa since its a diffrent country already. If you found a job in dubai in less than 15 days the better but you have to coordinate with your new employer to process your working visa and you still have to go out after 15 days and come back with a working visa from your employer....
2 :
I agree with Carl. It is better try while in Saudi. However, getting a job in Dubai is not easy whether you are in Dubai or not. You must follow specific tricks to get a job in Dubai. Here are few tips that I learned from the e-book at http://www.thatsdubai.com/jobs 1. Do not email your CV. Try to contact the HR Manager over the phone and then send the CV directly to the HR Manager. 2. Don't waste your time with thousands of recruitment agents in Dubai. Most of them even do not read your resume. Stick with few reliable agents such as bayt.com, clarendonparker.com etc.

Instead of visiting Dubai, it wd be better that u first look for jobs online. Because I have seen many people quitting their job n going to dubai to find another n failing in that. So the best way is to first apply online n then going through it: http://www.apnijobs.com This site will help u alot.
