Can women work in Saudi Arabia

Can women work in Saudi Arabia?
I heard there are jobs in Saudi Arabia, I have been told conflicting stories. I believe my friends are scared for me to go, and that is why they are saying women cannot work there. Might anyone know the truth?? Kate, I am all but not slowly watching everything I worked hard for slip right out from under me due to this depression we are in. I can handle a year tour to ensure that I do no lose everything. Sacrifice that I feel must be made.

Would espn360 work in Saudi Arabia

Would espn360 work in Saudi Arabia?
Hi, I am a Canadian living in saudi for work. I really am dying to watch all NHL games and will pay anything for it. Problem is My internet speed is 500 Kbps from what i tested on some site and the minimum requirement is 750 Kbps for espn360. Is there ways around this? Thanks It says though that it works in europe and the middle east, why would it need these requirements especially if it all needs is a decent internet connection.

Sorry. is can only " work "..buy using step Drown AC Transformer from 230 V to AC 110 V for you TV . and Playback from only those NTSC systems Machine VCR/VCD/DVD/PS3 (bought from USA only ), and those Tape/Movies/Game must from USA. you can never Received Local TV channel.and no other way to chance from NTSC to other ( unless tv is World Multi Systems ) . * IN Technically is can be don, by changing new PCB or Part of colour-Decord PCB. costs about new TV , because some World Brand make tv for other systems/country , but not for any OEM Brand or Mitsubishi TV. ( Mitsubishi only make NTSC for Japan and USA market ).

not bad for a single person.. You cannot be an over spender though.. but its a great salary..
4 :
What is RA?
5 :
Well I think it depends on your profession level. If you are a starter in your field, or with one or two years of experience only, then I advice you to go for it. But if you have a good experience that qualifies you to get a higher salary, then you have to be patient and try to approach more companies for job applications. Be aware that accommodation in Jubail is more expensive than Dammam, Khobar and eiven Riyadh. Some companies pay 4 salaries for accommodation for their employees who live in Jubail. So, if you have to pay for accommodation from your SR6750, a big part of it may be spent. If the company is going to pay for your accommodation, then you are lucky. Generally this salary sounds good, wish you the best luck
6 :
emmm single guy..... I guess you will spend no more then 2000-2500 sr/m.... and that is not being cheep, if you want to be cheep you can even live on no more then 750-1000 sr/m if you got a roommate did you ever leave home?! you should know all of this by now!! it is still not the best offer you can get providing that you are a saudi person and you have a bachelor degree, but it is a very good start, I guess it is better then what the government pays. if you don't have a bachelor degree or you are not a saudi person then it is a generous offer and look no further
7 :
yea it worth dude .. no matter where u'll work ..but u should work for ur future :D and u r a single guy u'll find friends and find new life and u might get experience gd luck with it Salam :D

This kind of thing depends on where you are from. If you couldn't get that amount in your own country then go for it. But where I come from I would say that in my opinion its not enough. Why don't you try asking them for a better offer.
2 :
LOW! it's enough for one week o_O
3 :
You definitely have to compare to what you can make in your own country before deciding if it's a good offer or not. We can't really help you to make that decision. 2500 is not enough for a family, but for a single guy, it's enough.

What is a regular work week in Saudi Arabia

What is a regular work week in Saudi Arabia?
In the US 40 hours is considered full time, although many people work more hours, especially if on salary. People who get paid by the hour get time and a half after 40 hours. Business hours are 9-5. How does this compare to Saudi Arabia.

big corporations are run exactly the same as the American system.. companies like Aramco, Boeing, Schlumerberger, etc and all the other large corporations.. they get overtime after the 40hours put in.. and only work 5 days a week with 2 day weekend (our work week days are Sat through Wed, with Thurs/Fri off) and hours from 7am till 4pm with an hour off for lunch smaller businesses are run however the owner wants.. usually open around 9:30 to 10am and closed somewhat around noon right before the noon prayer time, then remaining closed during the afternoon just to open around 3:30 or 4pm.. then remaining open (only to close for 20min intervals during the evening prayers) but as a whole open till 10pm. .. and they hire loads of unskilled foreign laborers to do the work and they tend to work long shifts with maybe a few breaks.. .. 24hour shops tend to rotate workers more..
2 :
Many of the shops in malls, etc. are open from 9am-12pm and then 4pm to anywhere between 10:30 pm and midnight (maybe later in Ramadhan). Like Mintee said, the big comapanies usually work from 7am-4pm, but I find that they're relaxed more than the US. My husband used to come from work at 3:30pm on most days. Now, he's usually staying till 4pm. He is also able to take off any time he wants to take me or our baby to the doctor.

There are two types. Corperate, Colleges, banks: 8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. Retail, Private companies (not all), Hospitals, clinics: 6: A.M.- 12:00 P.M. and the second shift 4:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M.
4 :
8 hours a day is the norm 5 days a week. how ever, i worked in a job for one extra day of the weekend. and it really varies from company to another. i'd say an average of 40-60 is normal. used to work from 9-5 yes. some work from 7-3 "like the printing press company i worked in" and i think my future job will be 9-6 5 days a week. as for over time, its 150% by the labor law for each hour minimum. how ever, they can go further but not less. each company also has a maximum number of overtime hours "so geeks like me dont work for 90 hours total and expect to get payed" depends which sector u work in rly. and each company has its own regulations so....

is it difficult for an American women to live and work in Saudi Arabia?

Saudi Arabia - 12 Answers

1 :
I shouldn't think so as a lot of western women work there as nurses, doctors and teachers. As long as you don't drink alcohol and respect Islam you should be fine.
2 :
Well, no. It all depends on what type of job you are doing and where. If youre there to look for a job in retail, then good luck. They look for men mostly (Except in womens clothing stores, obviously women employees), but if you are doing some work here under a contract with a petroleum/engineering company, then there is no problem. No taxes, 19 cent gas (Per gallon!). If you keep around the general Saudi population, then they will treat you with great hospitality as you are a guest. Now if you like to lounge around the more noticably troubled areas, then dont be surprised if anything happens. and dont be afraid to ask people in your compound about a place youve never been before, maybe its a hunting zone on foreign women being taken advantage of by a bunch of immature saudi teens who have no life (and think dad's money is all they need). SO yes, its not difficult, in fact, lots of Americans/British citizens are looking for relocations in their company if it has a branch in the middle east (Saudi Arabia,Qatar, Kuwait < < The really wealthy ones) so they can stay away from the economic woes back home.
3 :
I shouldnt think so but could depend on where you go, some places are a lot more strict than others. i am a 30 year old woman and relocating to jeddha for work later on, at present i spead a few weeks a month there and have no problems. As a western you dont have to cover your head and there are private beaches etc to go to at weekends. Also as long as you live on a western compound you are free to do as you please and just need to cover up when you venture outside in public. As to working, some of teh big companies woould employee women .
4 :
no, it is probably easier than in the west as women are respected more and not treated as objects.
5 :
definatly one muslim shake will kidnap you
6 :
No, it is not really. As I mentioned before you would just have to go with the flow. The culture is different not only outwardly, i.e. dress and so on, but also in the ways things work and the ways you need to communicate best. But that you would have to pick up after you arrive. For women, the most popular jobs are teachers. They also hire in nursing and generally medical professions. You could also set up your own business if you are very ambitious. Regarding life, you would learn a lot of new things here as it is a different culture and you can make many friends. If you are married or not makes no real difference. There are people that get married with colleagues if it is their luck. Hmmmm....what else? There are not many danger zones, or at least any I came across and I doubt as mentioned above that any grown up western women fall pray to young saudi teenagers. For goodness sake, women are smarter than that!!! and hope not that desperate.
7 :
its hard trust me .... ISLAM WORLD there its not like the west niether lebanon niether isreal.. ITS 1000 ====>>>> hard

9 :
She can live according to the teachings of Islam but it would be difficult to work. I think both things are possible.
10 :
in my opinion, yes. i see it safe. i have seen so many foreign women working and nothing has happened to them.
11 :
no its easy when youre american, but just be aware of the law and their culture here, you can not apply american ways of making friends here, men and women & single men and families can not be mixed in 1 place. there was 1 case of an american woman here who were detained for having a coffee in starbucks with her male colleague. as i said men and women can not mixed unless you were husband and wife.
12 :
i'm a saudi woman from jeddah...and i've lived for a short while in the states...so i could honestly tell you that it could be both...depends on your needs, expectations and personality. you're going to move out from your country where you were born and raised ...you're used to certain things and ways that you may take for granted now and don't even notice...and you're moving to another country half way across earth...you'll be faced with the different culture, mind set or systems, religion, traditions and so on...it's something you should obviously expect...the issue is: will you accept that change? will you adapt to it? and will you remain happy and content afterwards or would you rather go back to what's familiar and comfortable back home? that's what happenned to me...as i said i'm a saudi from jeddah...it's a relativly open city...i'm not against westerners and i'm not closed minded or rigid...etc and i've spent virtually 10s of summer vacations in the states and europe so when i moved to the states i had an idea of what's awaiting me...still, i found it to be the most difficult experience i had to go through in my life...to cut a long story short, i wasn't made for the US and the US wasn't made for me. like mixing oil with water...doesn't and didn't work. women in my country go to college, work, start thier own businesses...there are alot of expats from other arab, asian, african and even european countries. they're either here for work, thier husbands work, or they're married to saudis and live here...for the most part, it's not difficult to live and work in saudi for anyone if they are open to the new culture (and religion if you're not muslim or know any thing about islam) and way of life...you could find jobs in schools, colleges and universities, hospitals, special education centers, rehab centers, different companies and organizations for media and advertising, oil and gas companies, pharmaceuticals, consultation firms, banks and financial investment firms even companies such as P&G, Unil., coke...etc. i can't really count them all here...but you get the picture... once you settle and save up some money you could start your own business on the side...a lot of saudis would welcome having you as a partner for your expertise or even simply because you're american (an advantage in certain businesses lol ) if you're worried about covering up or not being able to drive and all that stuff...don't be...you'll learn that not everything is as it seems...if you're not muslim, most places in saudi won't care if you don't cover up..(i gotta say, some cities have different cultures and are a bit more strict...but in my city, jeddah, you will never face a problem)..you'll start seeing and understanding the benefits of not driving in saudi just a couple of hours after you land...trust me...you'll love the fact that you wont drive and have some one else go through the road stress, pick up the laundry, look for parking...etc. our islamic faith and arab culture requires and demands us to be hospitable and welcoming to every one regardless of nationality, race or religion...that's how we were brought up...we would literary take the clothes off our backs and the food in our plates and go far beyond our way to make our guests, travelers and any one that passes by us comfortable and content...so if you're worried about us running after you down the streets throwing eggs or beating you with a stick...don't be, we don't do that. (that being said, our society is not perfect and even though our religion and culture dicipline us you'll still find the ignorant, discriminating and arrogant individuals that might offend you or worse...but those are not the majority...just like in any other country) i could talk about a million different things that could prove that life and work in saudi for an american woman would be a great idea and another million that could prove the opposite...you really should give us more details about what exactly are you worried about...i probably could help you better that way. good luck and god bless

Why many European and north american who work in Saudi Arabia say that Saudi arabia is a homosexual heaven

Why many European and north american who work in Saudi Arabia say that Saudi arabia is a homosexual heaven?
to Hallie E:Very interesting description of the situation there. I wish I could give you a thumbs up but I have insufficient privilege to do so. The Egyptian police humiliated and condemn to prison many so called homosexuals while they clam their innocence(to not be gay). What an hypocrisies, what an hypocrite religion this Islam. And they blow-up themselves when they see a young unmarried girl pregnent.
Saudi Arabia - 12 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
In some seperate branches of islamic religion, men=pleasure and women=reproduction. they teach boys at a young age what we call homosexuality is ok and encouraged.
2 :
Well, there is a lot of 'situational homosexuality' in the Middle East. Due to strict Islamic customs regarding men and women, people of the opposite gender are rarely, if ever, allowed to date and socialize as we do in the west, the exception being family members who spend time together. As a result, there is a lot of sexual tension and curiosity building up, as no one ever gets to experiment with making out and fooling around as people in the Europe and the US do. As a result, many young men will mess around with each other, as they are understandably curious about sex. Some of them truly are gay and would date men openly were it possible, but many would normally identify as straight and wouldn't engage in intimacy with other men were dating women allowed. So, there is a large, underground 'gay scene' of men making due without women. Also, there is an interesting double standard in much of the Middle East, in which it is believed that of two men coupling (shall we say) the only gay one is the guy on the bottom.
3 :
Why they say so? Because they are ignorant and stupid. That's why. How can somebody call KSA being a homosexual heaven when being homosexual is forbidden and gets harsh punishment? Who ever calls KSA a homosexual heaven, what is San Francisco? I will not deny that there are homosexuals in KSA like in every other country on earth, but one reason why Westerners see so many "homosexuals" is because they are not familiar with local customs. Arab men are no homosexuals when they hold hands or greet each other by rubbing their nose. Who thinks so is just plain ignorant. I heard enough Westerners calling the traditionell dish dash a "dress" and that Arabs/Muslims HAVE to be homosexuals because of local customs. That is just typical western thinking. Take care.
4 :
I guess it's because of the social separation between the sexes. Therefore, men mix with men only most of the time and women mix with women only most of the time too. So if you're gay/lesbian you only get to mix with your preferred gender.
5 :
Because they are idiots and hate Saudi people.
6 :
Well, for many reasons. But for a few: 1. Many homo Asian workers live in Saudi and sell themselves. 2. Poor male family members sell themselves to make ends meat. 3. Sexual aduse of boys results in homosexuality.
7 :
the last lines of you question say bad stuff about my religion. there are two possibilities: 1- you don't know Islam well, learn Islam before you say stuff you will regret 2- I'll keep it to my self!
8 :
where the hell u heard that
9 :
http://planetsnook.com/images/bushkissesabdullah.jpg .
10 :
Homosexual heaven!!! sure there are homosexuals in Saudi just like any other country but to say its homosexual heaven is just funny and not correct. The question itself does not make any sense. "Many European and north Americans ...." I could phrase a question like that about any country in the world and just say about anything.
11 :
Because the dress code of the men is what we call in the west a dress ....not much different to what women wear and you will notice they love to hold hands.
12 :
Because they are always hit on by Saudi men. As the warning goes amongst expats "never take anything or they will want something gay in return"

when you exit on re-entry base, you can only re-enter for the same employer, otherwise your name is blacklisted. for how long? i think 4 years is more than enough, especially if you have a new passport.

The first thing to know is that is your iqama still valid. if it is valid than your sponsor have to make a letter to the embassy in india for the extension of your re-entry visa after signing and COC they have to send the letter to you. Then you will submit you passport along with extension letter to the embassy to get an extension. normally they extend for 30 days it means that you have to travel with in 30 days after extension.

Well thanks for asking.. obviously you dont know much about Saudi.. So hopefully others reading will learn. Yes we Saudi women work.. This is a media hype rumor that says we dont.. We are teachers, lawyers, bankers, business owners, pilots, nurses, doctors, theropists, merchants, cooks, social workers, designers, tailors, political appointees, tv news achors, actors, embassadors, the list is endless for what we can do and do do! Yes, there are some woman who are not that educated and probably they go back to their parents house after divorce. The husband is to pay support for the woman though.. But im sure just like in the west, he finds ways around this.. There are also loads of divorcee women that remarry.. Men no longer view the old stigma of "used".. I know many remarried women here.. and they are happy in their 2nd marriages. I dont feel that ive been treated disgusting.. In fact.. I think our woman are better off than women in the west.. We are not exploited for our bodies like the west is.. WE dont have this naked body stereotype to live up to, like the western woman.. Crimes against woman are still higher in the west than they are here..
7 :
and who told you this silly information !! Saudi women work and they are briliant . they are teachers , doctors , instructors , nurses and the list goes on .... , if you know nothing about Saudi Arabia , then stop creating stories from your mind . Nothing will happen to them financially by God`s Will , because the majority here in saudi arabia have better lives masha Allah and all thanks due to Allah and i think some of you here forget this point.. Do you think that we should need husbands until we can have better lives ??? No , we don`t need husbands hun to have better lives... i wish that you got the point ,
8 :
Muslim women can and do work in Saudi Arabia. Many Saudi women even own their own businesses. If a Saudi woman's husband dies, then I believe the government will give her and her children money, like social security. It's not a lot, but it's something. Also, if her parents are alive, she would go home to live with her parents, and not stay alone.
9 :
"woman cant just get re-married and its disgusting what they do to muslim woman there i think" I think you a55-u-me too much; the average woman here has three to four brothers and countless uncles in both directions, the old Chinese rule of one child per family does not apply here.
10 :
I can tell you with confidence, there is no legal system that gives women more rights than Islamic Shariah , despite what you hear or read about it to the contrary ; it is almost always taken out of context. For example they tell you in Islamic law sons inherit twice what the daughters get , but they don't tell you that in out of the 35 possible inheritance scenarios women get more or equal inheritance than men in 32 of them. So you should look at the entire picture not just the speckle on the bottom. Also take into account the Islamic law makes it the man's responsibility to spend and provide for the woman , while the woman KEEPS ALL HER MONEY and she does not have to give the man any thing. Even the fathers, not just the husbands, the father is responsible for his daughters even after they get married, so even if the daughter gets divorced the father must provide her financial needs regardless of age, while for the sons this is not the case, they are responsible for themselves after adulthood or completing collage. The men also must do the hard jobs, defend the country and die in wars or whatever disasters , and so on. Not only that , the divorced woman on top of getting money from the father, she also gets a Sadaq (divorce dowry) payment plus mandatory alimony on the ex-husband until she remarries (yes even if they had no kids). And if they had a child she gets the husband's house + alimony until either she gets remarried or the child reaches 14. Please tell me which legal/social security system gives women better rights than these. Now I am not saying life is perfect, as there are a lot of problems in SA and other Islamic countries, but that is not because of the spirit of law , it is rather because there are abuse and misuses of it. And in that regard no ones disagrees. But it is not like western countries don't have problems, just look around you first. I'd also remind you every Muslims with regular income pays a minimum of 2.5% of their annual income for the poor and needy , and some of that goes to divorced women & orphans (this 2.5% is mandatory on top of elective charity). Governments also pay social benefits.

13 :
The same thing that happens to a woman any where else in the world when she gets divorced....She picks her butt up off the floor and goes on to a better life.
14 :
Mintee has the best answer
15 :
What are you talking about TONS of women work here, lol. Even women fro other countries come here to work as well. A woman does not need a man here. She can have a house, a job, ride in a taxi or whatever else she needs to do on her own. The only thing is women can not drive but tons of resources are available. What is so disgusting that who does? Are you even Muslim? Have you ever been here?
16 :
Women ARE ALLOWED to work in Saudi. Most either have jobs, inheritance or go home to their family and usually re-marry.
17 :
Dear, in Saudi Arabia women do work and actually (as far as I am informed) there are more highly prepared women leaving university than men. Why do you think that women don´t work? I mean, you hear something about Taliban and Afghanistan and yes you are right, these situations existed and unfortunately have not improved much over there. But it´s got nothing to do with Saudi Arabia. It is not so long ago that divorce was impossible in many European countries, I guess you know that in Spain and Portugal divorce was not legal until the 80th and that in Germany until 1972 married women had to obtain permission from their husbands to be a allowed to keep their work after marriage and sign any working contract. Same in Spain, until 1975 (when the dictator died) women could not be judges and married women had to convince their husband to sign their working contract to give them allowance to work. As well married women were not allowed to travel on their own without a written permission from their husband and signed by a notary (even travelling within the different provinces of Spain.) Domestic violence â€Å“did not exist” in Spain and if a husband mistreated his wife it was called like â€Å“private problems” and if the wife ran away, the police haunted her and she was send back to her husband by law. Now, divorce has been and still is highly criticized by the Catholic church, meanwhile Islam does accept divorce and does not condemn the divorcees, neither men, nor women… And talking about Europe, dear, many women here don´t like to work, they simply want to get married just to have a provider and when it comes to a divorce they try to get out of their ex-husband as much as possible – just to be able to keep up their lazy life… Dear, you would be surprised how many women like that I know… I never have been to Saudi Arabia (although I travelled a lot in the region and I have good friends actually working in Saudi Arabia). I think it is easy to criticize other people and nations and unfortunately nowadays it seems that people who are Muslims are automatically regarded as an enemy, as if they would be dangerous just for the fact that they are Muslims, as well as people think that all Muslim men mistreat their wives and that Muslim women don´t have education. I think that the fault is that we get transmitted certain ideas by the media to make us believe what certain governments wants us to believe, as it is very convenient for them to create the enemy picture of the â€Å“bad and evil Arab Muslim”. I think that we should be a little more clever than believing all the rubbish they try to sell us...
18 :
woman working nowadays is permitted..i have lots of muslim woman co-workers at work. sad to say, i've seen a lot of woman here in the kingdom that are on the streets...like beggars. i guess, their husband died and don't a have family to take care of them. I have a friend who supporting his sister after her husband dies..

are female pharmacists allowed to work in saudi arabia

are female pharmacists allowed to work in saudi arabia?
i'm asking if they are allowed to wrok in pharmaceutical companies or pharmcies.

In some cases yes and in other cases no: If you mean working in a public pharmacy ----- No If you mean working as a Medical Representative ------ No If you mean working in a pharmacy of a hospital or in a hospital as a general case ------ Yes If you mean working as a Researcher in a Pharmaceutical Company ------- Yes If you mean working as a Researcher in any university ---------- Yes
2 :
in private hospitals and in closed pharmacutical labs, yes.. but in the open pharmacies around town, no.. Still in this Islamic society, if a woman is working in a place where she might be subject to meeting with a man alone, this is not allowed.. Im sure there are exceptions to every rule. But normally you know.. in a little street front pharmacy, she is the only vender there and if a man comes up to her alone, this is not allowed for her protection.. Maybe in the future if pharmacy windows were added in the major hypermarkets (like they do in USA in Walmart etc) where she will be working inside a booth that has closed off windows, and she can fill prescriptions from the safey of that booth, then possilby yes.. but they havent applied those as yet...
3 :
Yes female pharmacists can work in companies and hospitals where they have interna pharmacies etc but any pharmacy outlet or shop kinda thing, then it is a very strict No!!!!!!
4 :
yes saudi females and non saudi females are allowed to work in pharmcies and pharmaceutical companies.

I received an offer to work in Saudi Arabia for 50K, please advise

I received an offer to work in Saudi Arabia for 50K, please advise.?
Guys, I just received an offer to work in Saudi Arabia as an HR Head for 50,000 SR total month package. Any thoughts on the offer and life in Saudi in general. Thanks
Saudi Arabia - 7 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
dont know much - but congratulations on the opportunity :)
2 :
I say, go for it! 50K SR sounds great to me. All I can say about Saudi, are the drivers over there, they're crazy.
3 :
it all depends on the size of the company, if very big try to get more money. Be prepared for no movie theaters, no alcohol, be prepared to live in a compound. Life in Saudi pretty much sucks man. Especially for your family your wife/daughter has to wear head wear. Try countries with a less strict Muslim law, Jordan...anywhere else in the world. But please update your info with were you live, are you employed, how old are you? you can always go to saudi for a couple years gain reputation and get a better job somewhere else in the gulf. Just to let you know there is alot of opportunity in the middle east currently its up to you if you want to struggle in the atmosphere of saudi arabia for a couple of years. Overall, i think saudi arabia's atmosphere/socail life is very poor, but i would always work there if i was desperate for a job, i would get it gain rep. and get out:)
4 :
That̢۪s an excellent job position with a high pay. I would go for it if I was in your shoes. Btw : the people down here aren̢۪t that bad after all.
5 :
50,000 a year or a month? wow!.. if its a month.. you are going to be living like a king.. No one makes 50k a month.. at least not normal middle class working people.. thats like 13,300.00 us dollars per month.. You can live easily off a 10th of that.. 10,000 per month easily and save the other 40,000.. who cares if there is no theaters ,alcohol, etc.. with that money, you can fly every weekend to paris if you want to.. GEEZ.. we'd all dream for a job like that..
6 :
Well as Mintee said 50000SR per month is excellent. Even if you don't really like Saudi you can afford to travel whenever you like and you can live here and save up some money and then go back to your home country and just retire and live on your savings. You could easily live on less than half of that salary with your whole family. And I do think that once you get settled in to Saudi you will be ok with the country too.
7 :
50K per month is definitely a lot of money here. If you don't live in an expensive compound, then you will save a LOT of money while you're here. Live a simple life here and take your money home.

where are you from first? and which city you will go to it is very safe in saudi, crime is very low if you are from the middle east or from india or pakistan or asia, or african, you have no problems,
2 :
No problem, go ahead. Saudi Arabia is one of the safest place with less crime rate. All the best.
3 :
Yes ! my uncle have done the 7 years job in a American-Saudi company named Career. He told us that it was very wonderful experience.
4 :
Very safe. Its has one of the lowest crime rates in the world. Just obey the rules like no drinking etc. And learn some basic Arabic at least.
5 :
absolutely! one of the places in the world i feel the safest
6 :
very safe... crime is very low.. people tend to leave car doors open, houses unlocked, ive even once forgot and left my laptop in my car for 4 hours while inside a mall, and came back and there it still was.. peoples moral fiber here are very high.. The only, really only thing your dad will hate is the heat, everything else is fine... goodluck! and may God bless your family!
7 :
You and your dad have nothing to worry about. Saudi is a very safe country and as everyone else said the crime rate is really low. however it will depend on which city he will be in. some cities are ofcourse better than others in entertainment & shopping, restaurants...etc. Besides the heat, your dad will get very bored untill he makes friends. My dad is the same age as yours and he is actually looking for a job here in saudi so he will be close to me. I have been here for 5 years & i was really lonely & bored in the begining, now when i go back home for holidays i miss Saudi!!!!!
8 :
Crime wise it is very safe. However, keep in mind that what may be normal practices in a western community could be too risky here in KSA e.g. drinking, talking and going out with women, smoking etc.

I work in Saudi Arabia, and we have abnormal mild temperatures is it part of Global warming

I work in Saudi Arabia, and we have abnormal mild temperatures is it part of Global warming?
Normally in this time of the year we are up to 38-40 C in April but now we are at 30-35 C only. Low humidity and great weather. Although I am enjoying this I am sad that Mother earth is changing or is it not? perhaps this is just a coincidence?
Environment - 2 Answers

1 :
What you're experiencing in Saudi is more down to the weather then global warming. Weather affects things on a local scale and over a short period of time whereas global warming relates to climate which is based on long term trends around the world. Chances are that the temperatures will rise soon and that if you were to average them out across a long peiod of time you'd find they were close to normal. Whilst it may be cooler where you are, over here in the UK it's considerably warmer than normal and we've just had the hottest April on record. Some places above normal, some below normal but overall a worldwide warming trend. Also worth remembering that whilst the world is warming, the year on year change is very small - about 0.0156 degrees C. barely noticable over a short period of time.
2 :
Earth has always changed, it changes all of the time. Only this time it is changing a little more. This is not man made, and a overhyped issue. Please watch the Global Warming Special on May 2nd on Headline News (204 on Direct TV) at 7:00, 9:00 or Midnight Eastern Time. YOu will get the truth in this one hour special. This is way overhyped and just another reason to tax us to death and force us to buy the bogus carbon credits. Global Warming is a trojan horse for Socialism, wake up Americans. Global warming is at the fore front because politicians found how to use a new platform to get re-elected. The world leaders use it because they found ways to make money at it. This is a made up problem just like Global Cooling in the 1970's. Wake up people. I agree we need to be more efficient with our resources, and we should fine and jail companies who are dumping into our rivers maliciously. I want to stop the raiforest destruction, but to say that global warming is a serious man made issue and we need to destroy the American economy and bow down to the rest of the world certainly does not float my boat. Follow the money on this one and you will see that it is all for political gain and grant money for those scientists who profit off of the government if global warming stays at the front of the issues. Look deep into the Keoto (sp?) Treaty, first of all they took jets to a non-central resort location. Not very environmentally concious. THen in the parameters of the treaty they have a clause that makes it so you can buy or sell polution credits. This is all about shifting wealth and breaking down the United States. This is painfully obvious, just look at peoples agenda. The earth's mean temperature has risen .6 degrees C in the past 125 years. Greenland's icecaps have gotten colder in the past 10 years. The Scientists who do not gain anything on their posisition will tell you that the earth has a natural progression and this is what we are seeing. The UN report is made up of POLITICIANS not a good spread of scientists. THere are as many or more scientists who believe that man in NOT the reason and it is over hyped, but their voice is not heard in the LIberal Mainstream Media. This issue is 99% political, and an attempt to make the USA a socialist nation, and eventually communisim. WAKE UP AMERICA, IT IS TIME TO BE AMERICANS. FOR THE PEOPLE BY THE PEOPLE. STOP THE LIES

What is it like to live and work in Saudi Arabia as a female

What is it like to live and work in Saudi Arabia as a female?
I will be recruiting students for academic study does anyone know if I will find this more difficult to do as a Woman or would it depend on a number of factors? would it matter if I was married or single also any pointers on social etiquette would be fantastic. I'm only asking the question because I have heard so much conflicting information. I hope I will get an honest answer here. Many Thanks

i was there for 6 years and found it amazing to be mixing with another culture. you have to follow their rules/laws. in some areas, all the women must wear the burqa (face cover). should not talk to men in public.
2 :
It depends on your job and country, assuming you are a westerner working for a university you won't face any big problems, the biggest problem is the weather, and depends on which city are you going to you might have to wear a black cloak named abaya, you don't have to wear burqa.
3 :
regarding people; if you are interested in other cultures you will like it as you can learn new things every day..breaks the routine if you are patient at the beginning...plus the more recent western life style they are starting to accommodate with..YOU WILL SURVIVE :P regarding weather; from December to April its awesome..from may to September its disastrous
4 :
depends on weather u can survive in any other culture and hot weather. working as women in saudi arabia is fine u will work with ur female staff and its fine and ur not allowed to drive.

We already have doctors from all parts of the world working in SaudiArabia and they are all respected as such.. If you are good, experienced, well trained in your field.. Respectful of patients rights and feelings, you will do well here.
7 :
Honestly I have no idea why some people treat questions that are related to Saudi Arabia like it’s some kind of a joke! I’m a Saudi Arabian girl and when I go to a hospital it doesn’t really matter what nationality the doctor is, as long as he's able to treat me in a professional way and with respect ( some doctors can be really rude). And I really dislike a doctor who ignores my name completely (although it is right in front of him in my file) and refers to me as ‘patient ‘. A doctor who smiles gains a huge respect, cause we are aware of the fact that he is busy all the time and is probably tired, yet he is still able to embrace his pleasant personality. Try treating people like they are family. Saudi Arabian people don’t like stiff doctors. Yes we accept professional boundaries but not coldness.
8 :
Sanjay there are lot of people who have answered you, proving how ignorant they are! Work environment is same as everywhere, gain their trust, be warm/courteous, but make sure to follow the rules/laws of the country. Being a Dr you know what yr profession demands, maybe in the new country you may not be able to understand their accent easily, be careful on that before yr prescribing any medical treatment.
9 :
well to be honest with you, if you treat ppl nicely & respectfully, everybody will treat you the same, but don't think that would make you a better doctor. only your work quality do that.. best of luck

Would my ps3 bought in Canada work in Saudi Arabia?
If it does, is there anything I need to get for it? Power converter or something?
PlayStation - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Yes it will. You might need a power converter. And keep in mind all PS3 games are region free so you can buy any games and you will be able to play them.
2 :
yeah in saudi the power is different so you would need the converter to get it to work properly.
3 :
The PS3 Slim has a universal power supply, so those models can work with different voltages. All you would need is a plug adapter, not a power converter. The fat PS3 doesn't have a universal power supply, and Sony also says that those models can not be run when connected to a power converter. Keep in mind that PS3 games are not region encoded, but some Blu-ray movies and DVDs are. So you may want to buy movies for the Canadian region, otherwise they may not play on your console.

Saudis don't have their own woman doctors. If they pose a problem, it is their loss.

Please be aware that the promises and assurances given to you in order to entice you to come to Saudi Arabia may not fully represent the objective reality. I searched the United States State Department's official website and found some interesting facts about Saudi Arabia. Women are considered property in Saudi Arabia: "Women visitors and residents are required to be met by their sponsor upon arrival. Women traveling alone, who are not met by sponsors, have experienced delays before being allowed to enter the country or to continue on other flights. Women considering relocating to Saudi Arabia should be keenly aware that women and children residing in Saudi Arabia as members of a Saudi household (including adult American-citizen women married to Saudi men, adult American-citizen women who are the unmarried daughters of Saudi fathers, and American-citizen boys under the age of 21 who are the sons of Saudi fathers) are considered household property and require the permission of the Saudi male head of their household to leave the country. Married women require their husband̢۪s permission to depart the country, while unmarried women and children require the permission of their father or male guardian." Once you are a resident there, you will need permission to leave: "Residents in Saudi Arabia who are departing the country must obtain an exit permit prior to leaving and an exit/reentry permit if they intend to return to Saudi Arabia . The Saudi sponsor̢۪s approval is required for exit permits." If you are from an unpopular country, you may be targeted by terrorists: "There have been a number of anti-Western attacks in Saudi Arabia since May 2003. Terrorists have targeted housing compounds, businesses, and Saudi government facilities with vehicle-borne explosives and automatic weapons, causing significant civilian deaths and serious injuries; and in separate incidents have held hostages and killed individual Westerners, including American citizens ... In February 2007, four French residents of Saudi Arabia returning from Madain Saleh were killed in a shooting incident while resting on the side of the highway. The U.S. mission continues to receive reports suggesting that terrorist actions against U.S. private and official interests in Saudi Arabia are a strong possibility ... All American citizens in Saudi Arabia should maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness and reduce their vulnerability. Terrorist groups continue to target housing compounds, hotels, methods of transportation, and commercial establishments where Westerners can be found. Americans should maintain a low profile, vary routes and times for all required travel, and treat mail and packages from unfamiliar sources with suspicion. In addition, American citizens are urged to avoid contact with any suspicious, unfamiliar objects, and to report the presence of such objects to local authorities. Vehicles should not be left unattended, if at all possible, and should be kept locked at all times. American citizens are urged to park their motor vehicles in protected areas with restricted access and to inspect the vehicles before using them, looking underneath, inside the engine compartment, and inside the trunk. The use of a flashlight for vehicle inspections at night is recommended. Suspicious activities, individuals, or vehicles should be reported to the U.S. Embassy or nearest Consulate General. License numbers of vehicles and descriptions of individuals can be extremely helpful." You must be careful about breaking Saudi laws, even unknowingly: "Persons violating Saudi Arabian laws, even unknowingly, may be expelled, arrested, imprisoned or even executed. Suspects may be detained without charges or legal counsel, and with limited consular access, for months during the investigative stage of criminal cases." And last but not least - it is illegal to practice any religion other than Islam: "The government prohibits the public practice of religions other than Islam. Non-Muslims suspected of violating these restrictions have been jailed."

I was in saudi for the last 2 months. But i didnt find a single woman was working. I may not know the reason. But in my experience i am saying this. I don know what for u were searching job over saudi. u can work over there upto 1 or 2 months. After that you will find some difference in working there. To be frank , u will get irritated .
2 :
Saudi follows strict segregation between men and women which effectively means in companies different cars for women to go to meetings in and also different floors effectively seperate from men. Bcos of this many companies take the short cut and dont hire women at all. The ones that do mostly hire Saudis, and if not Saudi then some other arab national, and failing that the person has to be at leats an arabic speaker. Otherwise it is v difficult for expat women to find jobs in Saudi - I know some relaly well-connected women with good degrees who hava failed to get anything.

I work in Saudi Arabia and am looking for an alternative to the Belgian made Anti depressant Cirpram?
The reason is that I have Tunnel Vision and this is one of only a few Anti deepressants that dont affect eyesight. As a result of the recent cartoons depicting their prophet all Belgian goods have gone off the market. Madness or what taking medicine off the market affects themselves more than the belgians if their is no alternative!!! Any names of alternatives would be appreciated.

very low to no chance *** women in KSA aren't encouraged to work. Foreigners aren't wanted as workers unless there aren't enough locals in a field. And you don't say that you are Muslim. The way work for foreigners is found in KSA is through the employer and very few recruit outside KSA, especially for women. Offhand, I'd say the best chance is via your country's foreign service -- you want to be hired for your country's embassy or consulate in KSA. Next best chance, and a real long shot, is as a teacher of women at some school in KSA -- most likely a school only for foreigners and inside some foreigner-only compound. ...
2 :
You can apply at the Saudi Aramco, which has a reputation for paying good salaries and providing good accommodations. http://www.jobsataramco.com/Home/Job.aspx And you can inquire at various recruitment agencies for Saudi Arabia and other Arabian Gulf countries. http://www.gulfjobsites.com/jobs/Saudi_Arabia/Recruitment_Agents/ There are plenty of western women working in Saudi Arabia. They aren't allowed to drive in most places, except inside compounds such as that of Aramco and others. But taking a taxi there isn't much of a problem, as long as you have a mobile phone. But bringing your three children with you might be a problem for you. Most work contracts in Sauda Arabia are single status only. Which means that you aren't allowed to bring your family members to stay with you. In most cases, family members are only allowed to visit. But it depends on the type of job you get. Medical doctors, managers, and other types of senior employees usually are allowed to bring their family with them to stay there and go to an English-speaking school, if necessary.

Is it safe to work in Rastanura, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Is it safe to work in Rastanura, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia?
I'M A 3O YEAR OLD FILIPINO AND I'M PLANNING TO WORK IN SAUDI ARABIA, IN RASTANURA, IS IT SAFE TO WORK THERE? WHAT ARE THE RISKS THAT I MIGHT UNDERTA AKE IF I 'LL WORK THERE? THNX

The risks depend on what your job will be. Ras Tanura is an oil port. Also, Saudi Aramco has a compound there. If your job is physical, then I'd say that's your biggest risk. As far as crime, Saudi Arabia is pretty safe. There are a lot of Filipinos working in Saudi Arabia in all fields, from housemaids to doctors. What exactly are you worried about? your question is kinda vague...
2 :
hello my friend. these days it is safe to work in Saudi Arabia because the security is high and good if your afraid of terrorism, plus there are many filpino people there.
3 :
......yes it is safe here.....Risks are everywhere but it is safe here.....I've been here for more than 3 years. I think the problem will arise on the company you have applied to work for.......I heard there are companies that are not good these days......aside from the low salary, there is no benefits no vacation and no time off......
4 :
risk?.. depends on your job.. if you are out on an oil rig.. then job injury is your risk.. (or any high risk job)... if you mean risk of terrorism or prejudice because you are a philipinio.. NO.. there are many many countreymen of yours working here.. and everyone is fine with it.. .. the only otherthing might be sheer boredom... I am assuming you are a bachelor and will not be coming with your wife and children... so your social life might be lacking.. but if you try to find some friends and people with same interests and take part in any social events that are around you , hopefully you can pass your leisure time fine...
5 :
I life in Ras Tanura... It is safe and good place to life, near beautifull beach.. However, so many restriction in Saudi Arabia, specially if you are not muslim,,, I will explain you more, please contact me at ahmad_hanif@yahoo.com best regards, Hanif

if you have the same wall connection on your xbox and its the same in arabia then yea it would work
2 :
I would venture to say yes that the xbox will work, however the games and DVD's you buy may not, if they are not for the same region as the xbox, the US xbox will be Region 1, don't know what region Saudi Arabia is but I doubt it's region 1. If you could change the region on the xbox itself you should be alright. Other than that, there should be a switch on the AV cables to switch between NTSC and PAL formats, if not then that's something else to look into. Tentatively yes it will work. Check the region and the TV format itself.
3 :
No you can't, you must buy voltage converter to play your Xbox 360 US version. Voltage converter is looks like this http://www.voltageconverters.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=VC500W US current voltage is 110 V 50 Hz Asia current voltage is 220 V 60Hz So now you have to buy step down converter, Voltage converter has two type , step down and step up. For you, you have to buy voltage converter step down, when you go to the electric shop, just say i want to buy Voltage Converter Step Down 220 V to 110V ( 500 W) version. OK, i hope this will help you

Does any one work in Saudi Arabia as an aircraft technician?
Does any one work in Saudi Arabia as an aircraft technician? I will finished up my A&P certification & BS degree in aviation management from Embry-Riddle University. I was told there is good money to be made in Saud and your family can come too. Any one currently working there? Any info. you can provide would be great. Safe? What are the living conditions? Pay? Is it worth it? What is it like living there? What city/location are most US workers? Etc. Thanks

yes we have many american bases in our country, we don't allowing building 'infidel' churches here but we allow their military bases to be built here! we are great Muslims indeed
2 :
There are a lot of Americans working in Saudi Arabia. Most Americans live in Riyadh, Jeddah, or Al Khobar/Dhahran. Most of them live inside compounds that cater to Americans and Europeans. Some choose to live outside, which will save you a lot of money, but you'll lose the benefits of being in a compound such as transportation for the kids to school, a pool, a small store inside for basic groceries, social gatherings, etc. The living conditions are very good in Saudi Arabia. There are many poor people who live in horrible conditions, but you'll have a good job and will find a nice place to live. Saudi Arabia is very safe. There's not much crime. The only thing that's not really safe is driving. People don't respect the traffic laws at all, including a lot of the police force. Also, women cannot drive yet. Pay - Usually very good for Americans. Americans are generally on the top of the pay scale for most companies. Is it worth it? - That's all up to you. You have to weigh everything before making your decision. I don't work here. I'm married to a Saudi, so I can't really tell you what it's like living here as an expat worker. I live like a Saudi...

Check out www.jobsataramco.com they are looking for A&P certified techs. However, they usually require 10 years + experience. Living on Aramco is like being a spoiled little kid, the houses are not as nice as some compounds but the rest of the facilities, schools etc are first rate.

Is it okay to work in Saudi Arabia, as a nurse?
My daughter had applied for a job in Saudi Arabia. She's a nurse here in our country Philippines. She's assigned to King Fajad Hospital. Is the working condition there okay? We're worried since many of our countrymen who worked there had been abused, especially the domestic helpers.

she will be perfectly fine... Dont let the media circus scare you off.. They only want to take and run with negative stories.. Which you will find abuse all over the world if you read enough papers.. I wont sit here and innocently say the world is a charm and everywhere is wonderful.. Sure there are instances everywhere. but for the most part. Saudi Arabia will be just fine for her.. a great experience not to miss... As for the bad media coverage.. No journalist is going to report about Happy Sally's wonderful work experience in such and such place and how nice her salary was/is and how great she is treated cause that is the most boring news report on earth.. You only hear the once in a blue moon bad reports and thereby making everyone generalize thinking its the normal way people are treated here.. ... anyways.. Goodluck and God bless her. she honestly will be fine
3 :
yes,it's ok. don't worry, she will be fine :)

Madam, Majority of Hospital workers in Saudi (Jeddah, Riyadh, Qassim, Qatip, Dammam, Dharan, Hofuf, Rabigh, etc) are Philippinos and they are collectively very close to each other living in a compound provided by the hospital and having a bus transport that bring them to the city centers back & forth. They are receiving salaries starting from US$800 up to US$1,500 (tax-free) which is a good salary compared to the nurses in your place. The problem is Philippino by nature are fun loving and very emotional people. And this is where the problem begins. The sense of belonging, the craving for attentions and caring push a lot of Philippinos to inter into a relationship against the Catholic norms of your culture - hence they always say that all Philippinos in Saudi are either, bachelors, widowers, or abandoned (NO MARRIED) !!! King Fahd Hospital in Jeddah and Riyadh are both fine professional hospitals with big Philippino Community. Just ask your daughter (whether she is single or married) NOT to fall for a married man (specially non-Philippinos) and avoid pre-marital S*X. (Getting pregrant in Saudi out of marriage or without known husband in SAUDI is a BIG CRIME and Prostitution is normally the charge) Good luck to your daughter !!!
5 :
If she gets permission from her employer to work as a nurse then it will be ok. Yes doctoring and teaching are ok for women in Saudi Arabia.

How did slavery work in Saudi Arabia before abolishment in 1962

How did slavery work in Saudi Arabia before abolishment in 1962?
Salamu aleikum all... I did some business in arabia and saw that some Saudis treated immigrant workers relatively badly. As if they were lesser humans. A quick research revealed that slavery was abolished there only in 1962. Were there muslim slaves? If yes, doesn't this contradict with the teachings of islam? Were they imported from somewhere or were they members of native slave families?

1 :
well not having been born yet.. I dont have much experience first hand knowledge.. but from what i know.. its not much different from slavery anywhere else in the world.. ie: USA for example. or South Africa.. etc etc.. and just cause the laws were abolished in 1962, doesnt mean there were millions of slaves in 1962.. there werent.. Just a law on the books is all.. and my life growing up.. There werent much foreign labor when I was younger 30years ago.. until just recently in the early 80's when the oil boom started, thats when all of a sudden we started hiring maids, drivers, and laborers.. before the Saudi's did it all themselves.. and not everyone is treating unskilled laborers badly.. dont generalize.. its the same as anywhere else.. Do you think all Americans who hire an immirgrant treats them badly? NO.. same here..
2 :
The law concerning slavery was only changed recently, compared to other countries. However the problems some foreign workers face are not due to this. It is more due to the fact that the influx of foreign labour was both sudden and very large, and the legal mechanisms have been slow to catch up with the new reality that there are millions of foreign workers in Saudi Arabia these days. For most foreigners, the Saudi legal system is very hard access, let alone navigate, and so they are afraid to approach the authorities if they are mistreated, and some unscrupulous employers will take advantage of that. The same is true, though, of anywhere that has a large immigrant workers population who are unsure or nervous of approaching the authorities. The only difference is that the Saudi authorities have been slower to make efforts to make themselves accessible to foreign workers, whereas other countries (such as Singapore) have launched dedicated outreach units. And to answer your question about religion, I don't believe there was any particular issue with having Muslim slaves. It was simply a matter of convenience. Most slaves came from the horn of Africa, as it was nearby and with established trading likes with the peninsula, and it just so happened that many people were, and are, Muslim.
3 :
slavery still exist, just now it is filipina maids forced to have sex with there emploer and beaten by his jealous wife and Pakistan, Bangladeshi men in bonded labor.
4 :
Muslims can't be slaves. Also you have to treat your slaves equal and let them get married if they want to. Not like the USA, where they treatead the Native Americans*yes they did enslave the native Americans and tried slavery with the white people* before enslaving the blacks, after bribing African tribes and kidnapping tons of innocent men, women and children from their homeland. In the USA, slaves were treated like lesser beings, like animals, and a slave master could rape his slave girl and father children with her, thus making his children slaves. But Islam says, that a man can have sex with his females who his right hand posses, as well as his wives(I think that only applies to war; better ask an Sheikh or Imam for better information), and any child born of a slave girl and her master is a free person. They aren't slaves. Slaves can't be beaten in Islam, and you ahve to treat your slaves like human beings(i.e. give them the same food as you eat, the same clothes you wear, etc.). But the prophet(Salla Allahu alahi Wa Salaam) encouraged us to free our slaves. We can also free our slaves for the ransom of a Muslim prisoner, or free a slave during Ramadan if we are unable to fast. It counts as a good deed.
5 :
i dont know how it was during that time but it was not very common .. if i am not mistaken, it was only at some of the higher end of society and it was not like the slaves as you see them in old slavery movies .. with chains, put them in jails and sell them as commodities .. it was more of a servant / boss relationship, where they are provided with home shelter, salary .. vs. help and loyalty. it is very much similar to the big boss in any province in the world (my men). personally, there was not any single story of a slave i heard in my whole family roots or relatives, and those stories go for a 100 years. so, i assume it was very little. About slavery, it still exists today, and worse than any other time in history. According to the book in the link below, that: In the past it was limited to the elite class, and buying a slave is like buying a mercedes car. Today, you can get a slave for a 100 dollars in Haiti (worst place for slavery in the world. There is a new trafficking to slave in the USA every half an hour. One of worst places of slavery today is Israel with sex slave traficking. Also countries like Vietnames and Thailand. There is about 70,000 prostitutes underage in Vietname alone, this is other than the other Vietnamese exported to other countries. There is no way that a teenage will choose to be a prost. by choice at this young age.
6 :
Sure it still exist and 'ME' gave the best answer. I personally know Philippina girls who escaped that environment. . .being raped by a dirty unshaven Saudi master and told to keep quiet or they will be beheaded. GOD what a decadent bunch of people hiding behind religion. Mind you not all Saudis are like that, however the perpetrators leave such a bad impression behind that people think all Saudis are like that.

No there's no way you can do that. Your liver enzymes are way out of whack. Have you received any treatments for this chronic disease? I would not suggest you go to Saudi Arabia. My suggestion is SEE A DOCTOR.
2 :
Why would you even want to do something like that? These precautions are put in to place for your protection and the protection of others.
3 :
Get yourself treated, with pegylated interferon and ribavirin.
4 :
well, that is stupid of the goverment then as hcv, is not spread by any way except for blood. it is not contagious any other way. there IS a cure for hepatitis c and your genotype has a lot to do with how well you would respond to treatment, but if you ask your doctor for antiviral chemotherapy and remain "sustained" for a year or more post antiviral chemo, a person and his doctor will tell you that you are cured. after responding to treatment, you will always test positive for antibodies, however, the active parts of the virus are dead. ask your doctor!
5 :
There is no way to make the antibody test negative. Even if you clear the virus yourself (about 20 per cent of people do) or if you successfully cure the hep C with peginterferon and ribavirin, the antibody test will still show positive.

Is it safe for westerners to work in Saudi Arabia

Is it safe for westerners to work in Saudi Arabia?
My husband has been offered some work in saudi arabia doing IT training. I have read lots on the internet about the risks, but would like to know from anyone in saudi western or otherwise what the real truth is. I think many western news and TV pinpoint the bad parts. Also I know tourists are not common in Saudi at the moment but would it be permitted for me to travel with him too. I am aware of the need to cover up thats not a problem i would expect to have to adhere to local rules and customs. Thankyou in advance.

Um its as safe as going to any new country however you will have to cover up when your in public and not wear make-up.I dont think there are many tourists but im sure there are lots of foreigners actually living there.um if you have children girls dont have to cover up and there are international schools there. It is a bit risky and depends on the job ur husband has been offeredBut i hear the shopping there is great!!
2 :
it not that dengerouse, he can be safe dont worry for you i think they would you go with him by visit visa ,

yes its very safe.. its all depends on were your going to live and how.. their are many Americans in Saudi.. and they all live in huge compounds with a totally western fell inside, if u need specific info ..plz email me.. and dont forget to add an email at the end, because i dont usually use yahoo mail..
4 :
I am not westerner, but I am in touch with many of them. Currently yes, it is safe, very safe. the government is seriously taking measures to protect them. But the question is, when the violence will start again? No body knows, like what happened 1996, 2003; there were no signals before it occur. Regarding the visit visa, I think it is possible, go to www.mofa.gov.sa you will find all the visa requirements.
5 :
Yes there is no problem at all. I'm sure he'll be fine. Have a safe journey!
6 :
I dont think it is safe. Westerners are being shot dead there and we dont know b'cz the news doesnt leak from govt. So, be careful.
7 :
Yes, its pretty safe at the moment. You can travel with your husband, of course. If he is staying for long you can get a residence permit along with him, with you as one of his dependents. If you'll just be visiting from time to time, you can get visit visas each time.
8 :
i am an american living in jeddah with my husband and kids, i personally have never had any negative experiences here for the 4 years i have lived here. Make-up is not a problem at all you will see many saudi women wearing full makeup out. Personally I feel like a compound is not safer since it would be targeted opposed to an apartment. i think jeddah is the safest place to live in ksa. I love here and I don't feel "oppressed" or like a "second class citizen" but it makes a huge difference if you have your own driver or if your husband has a car. The shopping is great and you can get a lot of western products, food and restaurants except of course alcohol and pork which are bad for your health anyways. btw the abayas are cool especially the custom made ones you can choose from many designs. Good luck! Pick me!!!!!!!!!
9 :
I think Lebanon is the only safe place for westerners in this region.
10 :
We live in the Capital (Husband and wife). We live in an american compound. We are told not to go to the malls unless we actually have too. You should try and learn as much arabic as you can as you will be accepted more but they still dont really want you there. Dont give the thumbs up as this is like giving the finger. Remeber women can't drive , are not allowed out of the house with out your husband or a male cousin and arab women have to walk behind the husband and kids. when you meet arab women dont put your hand out to shake it . always say salam alakum. good bye is maasaalama You state that you dont mind covering up but when its 50 degrees outside and your covered from heard to toe in black you will start to hate it and start to cinfine yourself to the house and airconditioner. Money is good but, we have no freedom . its all work when we first arrived it was pleasent after 911 we live in a compound like fort knox. You are in for a BIG suprise as a women if you go .Its a mans world and watch your back.

Is Saudi Arabia a good place to work for a bachelor

Is Saudi Arabia a good place to work for a bachelor?
Saudi Arabia obviously has a lot of restrictions, and I'm ok with that. What worries me is whether there's a chance to be social. From what I've read it seems like a good career choice for couples or small families that have built-in social opportunities. Do I have this right, or are there other singles, expats, living and working in Saudi Arabia?

There isn't much in the way of public social settings - bars, restaurants etc. Most socialising will be in people's homes. There are a fair number of expats working out there and there is an expat social scene you can get involved in (especially if you live in one of the expat compounds) You'll also make pretty good money tax free!

try to ask those that you have seen that hate working there,am sure they will give you the best response
2 :
It should be very obvious to you. . .why do Saudi need imported labor? Because the locals do not work since it is above their dignity and therefore look down on all others who work. Saudis treat those workers like 3rd class people and abuse them for their own pleasure. These workers all come from countries and places where there are no opportunities to earn a living and unemployment is above 35%. They are desperate to earn money to support the families back in the home country.
3 :
I can say that most people, and that includes other nationalities not mentioned, will go to Saudi Arabia to earn a decent living if the opportunities are not offered elsewhere. For workers who are doing menial jobs like house help, general labour and some construction workers, the pay is low compared to the hardship they have to deal in their work. However, if their job is technical, managerial or supervisory in nature, they usually earn higher compared with the same work back home. Another factor that should be considered is the Saudi way of life which has a lot of constraints compared to other countries. If people can not adopt, then life in Saudi will be difficult. For men, no booze (there is a local brew called sadiki but you do not know if it will affect your health since it has no quality review), no ladies and parties (if you do not know where to look..). Take note that Saudi society is a lot open than 10 years ago and i bet more social and political changes are forthcoming. So to summarize, it all boils down to how much you need the money and how much you are willing to adopt to the local way of life. People will complain but come back working in Saudi if they can not find any decent job elsewhere.I am a Filipino who have worked in Saudi Arabia for more than 8 years. I am working here in Kuwait, an open country, however I am still applying for a job there.

Many Filipinos and Indonesian come from low-income families plus it's really hard to find a job in their own country since there's A LOT of people competing for jobs there. Kind of like here in US where the most-struggling places are, except a little bit worse. So what they do is apply for abroad and find a job there instead. Many Filipinos/Indonesian go to Saudi Arabia because it is one of the easiest countries to be accepted to. By the way, it's really hard to get out of the country when you're in Philippines(probably in Indonesia too) because the government looks at your background and income to make sure you have the money. So you pretty much have to be rich. I don't know why it's like that, but that's how it works over there. Anyway, these people that work in Saudi Arabia are trying to earn money for their families in Philippines/Indonesia that they left behind. They don't like it because of how strict Saudi Arabian customs are. Plus, some bosses or managers can also be mean. My cousin is a private nurse for a PRINCESS in Saudi which at first, I was jealous about. I mean sounds freakin amazing right? But as she started telling me more about how they treat her there, I'd rather be where I'm at now. I'm not going to share her experience there on here but she said that she feels like a prisoner and she would rather go back home to Philippines than be working in the palace. So that should tell at least a little about how it is in Saudi.

Probably because of a lot of bad press of their treatment in Saudi Arabia. regardless if the foreign worker was innocent or not. bad press is bad press. Not to mention that Saudi Arabia's laws do NOT adequately protect the safety and well being of foreign workers, most importantly the freedom to leave and cancel their contracts. that freedom is at the whim of their employer, and thus gets easily abused by bad employers.
6 :
they come in saudi arabia for money and different culture and language(sometime some abuse) encourage them to hate saudi arabia.
7 :
It's because lots of employers treat their workers badly, they beat them and speak rudely to them, some women even get treated as prostitutes and raped. Not every Saudi household is like that, but if you want your servants to like you, you've got to treat them well.

The people who go to saudi for work are lucky. I say saudi arabia is kingdom of humanity. In this time many countries are in trouble because of economic downturn and because of the rules they have. The people who hate to work or hate to live in Saudi are i should say;out of their minds man!!.
