What is it like to live and work in Saudi Arabia as a female

What is it like to live and work in Saudi Arabia as a female?
I will be recruiting students for academic study does anyone know if I will find this more difficult to do as a Woman or would it depend on a number of factors? would it matter if I was married or single also any pointers on social etiquette would be fantastic. I'm only asking the question because I have heard so much conflicting information. I hope I will get an honest answer here. Many Thanks

i was there for 6 years and found it amazing to be mixing with another culture. you have to follow their rules/laws. in some areas, all the women must wear the burqa (face cover). should not talk to men in public.
2 :
It depends on your job and country, assuming you are a westerner working for a university you won't face any big problems, the biggest problem is the weather, and depends on which city are you going to you might have to wear a black cloak named abaya, you don't have to wear burqa.

regarding people; if you are interested in other cultures you will like it as you can learn new things every day..breaks the routine if you are patient at the beginning...plus the more recent western life style they are starting to accommodate with..YOU WILL SURVIVE :P regarding weather; from December to April its awesome..from may to September its disastrous

Serve them pork and alcohol.

not sure, sorry

beat and rape a woman that works for you in the name of Allah. then brush your teeth with mule sh*t and they'll take to you as one of their own.
4 :
Simply show them you are honest, trustworthy and dependable. That is all people want to see. Saudis are not much different than Americans.
5 :
Offer them Jack Daniels and cigars.

We already have doctors from all parts of the world working in SaudiArabia and they are all respected as such.. If you are good, experienced, well trained in your field.. Respectful of patients rights and feelings, you will do well here.

Honestly I have no idea why some people treat questions that are related to Saudi Arabia like it’s some kind of a joke! I’m a Saudi Arabian girl and when I go to a hospital it doesn’t really matter what nationality the doctor is, as long as he's able to treat me in a professional way and with respect ( some doctors can be really rude). And I really dislike a doctor who ignores my name completely (although it is right in front of him in my file) and refers to me as ‘patient ‘. A doctor who smiles gains a huge respect, cause we are aware of the fact that he is busy all the time and is probably tired, yet he is still able to embrace his pleasant personality. Try treating people like they are family. Saudi Arabian people don’t like stiff doctors. Yes we accept professional boundaries but not coldness.

Sanjay there are lot of people who have answered you, proving how ignorant they are! Work environment is same as everywhere, gain their trust, be warm/courteous, but make sure to follow the rules/laws of the country. Being a Dr you know what yr profession demands, maybe in the new country you may not be able to understand their accent easily, be careful on that before yr prescribing any medical treatment.
9 :
well to be honest with you, if you treat ppl nicely & respectfully, everybody will treat you the same, but don't think that would make you a better doctor. only your work quality do that.. best of luck

You should ask this question of the agency you are going to be working for. They should give you all info for preparing you to work in Saudi.

Of course this is depend on the employer but from my experience in Saudi (I've been here for about 30 years ) i can tell you do not worry about your experience you can learn many thing from the staff or the doctors themselves sometimes they guide you and Saudi is the easiest country you can work in it.

Depends on the Hospital but where I work an orientation course is given to all new employees regardless of nationality or specialty. It includes the facility, dress codes, briefing on local customs plus the hospitals' rules and regulations.
