Well, there is a lot of 'situational homosexuality' in the Middle East. Due to strict Islamic customs regarding men and women, people of the opposite gender are rarely, if ever, allowed to date and socialize as we do in the west, the exception being family members who spend time together. As a result, there is a lot of sexual tension and curiosity building up, as no one ever gets to experiment with making out and fooling around as people in the Europe and the US do. As a result, many young men will mess around with each other, as they are understandably curious about sex. Some of them truly are gay and would date men openly were it possible, but many would normally identify as straight and wouldn't engage in intimacy with other men were dating women allowed. So, there is a large, underground 'gay scene' of men making due without women. Also, there is an interesting double standard in much of the Middle East, in which it is believed that of two men coupling (shall we say) the only gay one is the guy on the bottom.

Why they say so? Because they are ignorant and stupid. That's why. How can somebody call KSA being a homosexual heaven when being homosexual is forbidden and gets harsh punishment? Who ever calls KSA a homosexual heaven, what is San Francisco? I will not deny that there are homosexuals in KSA like in every other country on earth, but one reason why Westerners see so many "homosexuals" is because they are not familiar with local customs. Arab men are no homosexuals when they hold hands or greet each other by rubbing their nose. Who thinks so is just plain ignorant. I heard enough Westerners calling the traditionell dish dash a "dress" and that Arabs/Muslims HAVE to be homosexuals because of local customs. That is just typical western thinking. Take care.

I guess it's because of the social separation between the sexes. Therefore, men mix with men only most of the time and women mix with women only most of the time too. So if you're gay/lesbian you only get to mix with your preferred gender.

Well, for many reasons. But for a few: 1. Many homo Asian workers live in Saudi and sell themselves. 2. Poor male family members sell themselves to make ends meat. 3. Sexual aduse of boys results in homosexuality.

Homosexual heaven!!! sure there are homosexuals in Saudi just like any other country but to say its homosexual heaven is just funny and not correct. The question itself does not make any sense. "Many European and north Americans ...." I could phrase a question like that about any country in the world and just say about anything.
