not that much! Most Saudi women dont work. Except for immigrants. For example, Im half egyptian half american, my mom is egyptian and she works. Her friend is saudi but she doesnt. They have this tradition that women shud be staying home, cleaning and doing chores! But that was long ago! Now I can tell 50% work and the others dont.

It's safe if you adhere to their rules. here is an article about how to travel in the midwest http://www.articlefax.com/2009/11/how-to-travel-in-middle-east-as-woman.html

It all depends on which job it is and the degree of compromise you are ready to take up while staying here. You want to come to Saudi means you've got a job which promises you some amount of money which you cannot get in your present job or the place you live in. Saudi is a typically male dominated country where women have almost nil participation in the professional arena. However these days we are experiencing a minor wave of changes, where girls are to be seen in the corporates. More and more girls are getting higher education and instead of going to other countries are managing to secure a job here. Only once the Govt. or a Father or a Brother or a Son of the girls start understanding the magnanimity of what they are losing by putting half the population under dark covers, will things change for good here. There is already a Co-ed university in Jeddah and I hear another 3-4 are coming up. Offcourse there were opposition from some uneducated idio.ts. But King stood firm and continued this process. Just waiting for Ladies' to drive like the rest of the world ! It's safer here if you take care of yourself properly.

Good question, I want to know myself...I'm not sure if women are allowed to work...maybe they make women-only buildings for them, just my imagination, I need to do some research lol. I guess it differs from whether the woman is Saudi or not too
